Did anyone notice the TAS alien on the bridge of the Enterprise at the counsole? At least, I think that's the same kind of alien that's in TAS that was never on the series.

He kind of looks like Arex from TAS, yes, but background material about the crew of the Kelvin revealed that his name is Alnschloss K'Bentayr. He's from the planet Monchezke in the Beta Quadrant. In an interview at Trekmovie.com the guys who designed that alien said that it isn't a reference to Arex.
Personally, though, I like to think they are of the same species.
