I, too, watched it on its first and only broadcast as a child. I was into anything Star Wars in that moment of my life. I do not remember my impressions during and after watching it.

My impression at the time was something like, "Gee, I hope mom and dad aren't paying attention, because I'm going to be super-embarrassed when they start ripping it apart!"

But with all the Star Trek they'd endured by that time, I think they were just tuning it out, mentally speaking.
