2011

The Smurfs is a 2011 American 3D family film based on The Smurfs comic book series created by Peyo and the 1980s animated TV series it spawned. It was directed by Raja Gosnell and stars Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Winters, Hank Azaria, Jayma Mays, and Sofía Vergara. It is the first CGI/live-action hybrid film in The Smurfs trilogy.[3] During an early production the film was known as The Smurfs Movie.
After five years of negotiations, Jordan Kerner bought the rights in 2002 and was in development with Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies until Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation obtained the film rights in 2008. Filming began in March 2010 in New York. After having the release date changed three times, Columbia Pictures released The Smurfs on July 29, 2011.

In the beginning of the film, Narrator Smurf tells the audience about the Blue Moon Festival, where every Smurf prepares to sing the Smurf Theme Song, almost every Smurf. Gutsy Smurf and Grouchy Smurf tell Clumsy Smurf he's on the "Don't Not Let In" list because he's too accident prone. Meanwhile, Papa Smurf sees a vision, showing Clumsy with a dragon wand, the Smurfs in cages, and Gargamel having ultimate power. Running from Gargamel, the Smurfs leap into a magic portal and finally discover New York City.
They take shelter with a young married couple (Patrick and Grace Winslow), who are expecting a baby. Now the Smurfs must get back to the Middle Ages and stop Gargamel. With the help of Patrick and Grace, the Smurfs soon defeat Gargamel.

I am surprised no one has started this yet...

Isn't the movie aimed at the youngins, and not even trying to hide that?

Aren't most posters on this site older than said youngins?

I get nostalgia and all that, but sometimes can't a kids movie just be a kids movie?

Who said that it wasn't a children's movie? It doesn't mean that we can't discuss it if people have seen it. There was quite a lot of discussion on this a while back.

This is undoubtedly one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life! Even as a "kid's movie" it's horrible! I doubt you will see a worse movie in the next two decades.

Here's just one example why - let me rephrase my first two sentences in this post as if they were lines of dialogue from this movie....

This is unsmurfly one of the smurf movies I have ever smurfed in my smurf! I smurf you will see a smurf smurf in the next two smurfs.
:brickwall:

I had the misfortune of seeing a TV ad for this yesterday - which was about 1400 hours more of it than I ever need to see.

^

Of course, because lots of little kids will bug their parents to take them to see it. :)

Since that was the premise under which it was made, it's a complete success then.

Who honestly thinks that at any point here the producers, writers, studio executives or director said "you know, if we go that way we're sacrificing the audience of young adult males in favor of kids and we can't let that happen?"

 Not me. I kinda knew what I was getting into when I found out Katy Perry was doing the voice of Smurfette.

Does anything shoot out of her chest in this one? Because I haven't seen the movie, and if there's whipped cream or fireworks or something I'll make it a priority.

:guffaw:

Nope. They're probably saving that for the sequel.

I keep seeing that music video in the mall food court but the sound is off. What the hell is going on?!? It's really weirding me out, especially when you see it happening with the woman giving birth.:wtf:
