Grew up watching the re-runs and just loved the Yo-Yo Man . Was fortunate enough to see them live with my mom and they were awesome.

I LOVE the Smothers Brothers. I regret that I was never able to see them perform in person. Although I'm too young to actually remember their show from the 60s (I'm actually the same age), I did catch their show in the 90s. It was fantastic.

I remember those. Swore that they aired via CBS.

I had the pleasure of attending a taping of the Smothers Brothers show at CBS Television City back in 1968 (I think). Glenn Campbell guest starred. The first thing I noticed was the odd, orange-ish makeup Tom and Dick wore -- I assume to make their skin tones appear "normal" on the primitive color TVs we had back then!

They had some funny episodes, some controversy, and as with all comedies some of it has aged better than other parts of it. And if people look up the social context of the time in which the comedy was the most comparatively well-received.

I've never seen much of the show, but it'd be a welcome addition to my 50th Anniversary Viewing in The Classic/Retro TV Thread, if somebody were playing it....

Probably my favorite Smothers Bros moment wasn't actually on the show or part of their stage show. In one of their sketches on the show, they lampooned the LAPD as being Gestapo-like, especially to minorities. Well, Field Marchall Darryl Gates of the LAPD took offense to the sketch and made a big stink.

The Smothers Bros decided to give a press conference to address the issues, including Gates' complaints. The press conf, which was covered by the news programs, started with Tommy giving a written statement. As Tommy is reading, a big LAPD officer steps from behind the cameras and walks toward toward Tommy. He grabs the unsuspecting Tommy by the arm and says something like, "that's enough, you're coming with me". Tommy has that patented look of his that is a combination of bewilderment, fear, and ignorance. Turns out it was a bit. The LAPD officer was Super Dave Osbourne, who was a semi regular on the show. After the reporters caught on, they howled.

Really a funny bit and a good way of doubling down on their quite accurate point about the LAPD.

My dad loved the Smothers Brothers and had all their albums. Listened to them quite a lot growing up.
Awesome. Saw an album of theirs recently, but sadly it wasn't in good shape. Wanted to get it so badly.

I wish! It would be sweet.

Youtube has some of their stuff up thankfully. It's all a national treasure.

My mother loved Share a Little Tea with Goldie, but she didn't understand the other meanings of things like "tea". She just thought she was spacey and silly.
