The Simpsons 3/22: "In the Name of the Grandfather"

Meh. The past few episodes have breathed new life into The Simpsons, but this one was back to the low standard we've come to expect. Just another wacky situation and a bunch of lazy stereotypes and sight gags. Although it did have a few good gags here and there. I broke up (pun intended) at "Blarney Rubble."

And speaking of lazy stereotypes, since when was Chief Wiggum Irish? His voice is based on Edward G. Robinson, who was a Romanian Jew. There's never been any hint that Wiggum had an Irish background, except maybe for his first name. But this whole episode is made of stereotypes, and so they had to throw in the Irish cop stereotype even though it made no sense.

Eh, I liked the episode (not the last gag, that was kinda dumb, but the ones previously). Good puns, the fish gag and Q-Bert gag were funny. The Simpsons traveling to foreign countries have always been more about stereotyping anyway, so that was fine with me.

Bart: "We've run out of interesting things to do."

Well, doesn't that sum up the episode...the series.

Notice that Granpa destroyed the hottub and it disintegrated. No plastic shell...

The Blarney bits were amusing.

Apparently the writers have been retconning almost everything from the show to update the family's appeal or whatever. Basically turning the show from a defiant pop culture icon which challenged you to an over-marketed and watered down version of the original that has no real purpose. It's been ages since the show tried to make a point about anything current.

I always enjoy any episode where they visit another country. Hell, I wish they'd do an entire season arc where they travel around the world!

The U2 Movers billboard was clever.

They Move in Mysterious Ways, you know....

hmmm, Bart Vs. The world...they could go to China, Antartica, Egypt and Hollywood....oh....wait....nevermind

Honestly, even if The Simpsons aren't as good as they used to be, I've yet to see an episode that wasn't worth a half hour of my life. Unlike Family Guy-- I turned off last weeks episode 20 minutes into the incredibly stupid "Conway Twitty" joke (at least it seemed like 20 minutes. FOX actually pays Seth McFarlane for crap like that?) and didn't even bother with American Dad. This week, I didn't want to watch either one of them.

yes, I really believe that it is time to form up a good old-fashioned lynch mob and head Seth MacFarlanes way

I know, we really need a scarcasm smiley..., and BTW my DVR cut off the last segment of FG last night, and didn't record American Dad, how did FG end anf what was AD about?

Why was Bart going uh-oh when Irish Nelson came along? Just literally move your ass before he carves!

Am Dad was a Ocean's Eleven rip off about Steve breaking into a bar mitzvah. The ending of Fam Guy was that Rush Limbaugh and Michael Moore weren't having gay sex they were the same person in disguise... FRED SAVAGE, THE WORLD'S GREATEST ACTOR! Fox News refuses to run the story. In the final scene, Lois is no longer a reporter and doesn't say why she stopped because everything is back to normal now so who cares? The family agrees.

allright, I just figured that because Rodger has become a charater in disguise freak that he'd be all over an episode like that

Did anyone notice that the tavern owner on 'The Simpsons' was Chief O'Brien (Colm Meaney)?
