The Simpsons: 20 x 7 - "Mypods and Boomsticks"

This season has been a mixed bag, to be charitable. But this particular episode struck me in just the right way. Whether it was the Apple spoofing or "Homerland security", I don't know. Both portions made me actually laugh out loud for a change.

I thought it was mediocre. The plot with the Muslim family had its heart in the right place but was rather preachy; since when was Bart such a poster boy for tolerance and fair play? As for the thing with Lisa and the "Mypod," that whole plot didn't make a lot of sense to me. Perhaps it would've been more meaningful if I had one of those digital music thingies or were more familiar with Apple products and culture.

But what was really great about this episode was the couch gag. I laughed out loud at this one. I can't believe it took them nearly 20 years to think of combining the blackboard gag and the couch gag!

WOW!!!

One of THE FUNNIEST eps in AGES!!!

I LOVED the whole Mapple pisstake thing, mainly because I have an ipod(and LOVE it)and know quite a few people who obviously feel the same way about Apple. I always put it down to jealousy and so I loved that the Simpson writers showed their hand and displayed the same kind of irrational bias towards this company.

Lots of good one liners in the classic Homer sense as well.

Just really very very funny and NOT like the Simpson's these days in that I ACTUALLY laughed.

The obligatory 1984 Apple Commercial parody that most people don't get.

The bully Dolph is Jewish?

Yep - established quite some time back just can't remember when or the exact context but he put puts on a skull cap and then goes of speaking Hebrew.

What I thought was the best part: on my showing there were about a dozen Apple commercials during the breaks.

A sort of in-joke I forgot to mention was that Dan Castellaneta was the voice of the Alladin Genie after Robin Williams, so it was amusing to seen him there.

Pretty funny. The biggest satirical bite was reserved for those who think buying Apple really makes you an individual, and it was smart of the the show to use Lisa as the fool for once.

They've used her a few times. Not as much as Bart or Homer, but on several occasions at least.

Believe me, this is not meant to cast aspersions at those here who use an Apple, but the satire of Apple was somewhat overdue. Some folks do seem to exhibit an almost cult-like worship of some products, but then I suppose you can say that about a great many pieces of technology these days. I got a kick out of how the bill for Lisa's downloads came wrapped in a Styrofoam enclosure and was inches thick.

Also laughed at how "Jack Bauer" is now a verb. Kinda fun continuity with Shohreh Aghdashloo ("24" - day 4) providing the voice for Bashir's mother.

Though it did go both ways, with Bart equating his biting social commentary with the noted satire and social criticism of Dane Cook.
