The Mexican-Aremenian gang war heats up, enabling Vic to position himself as a valuable commodity to both sides.

Meanwhile, Corrine and Cassidy confront Vic.

TV Guide got some interesting teases about the final season from Shawn Ryan, Michael Chiklis, and CCH Pounder back in July, in an article I didn't see until today. I'll quote only one of those tidbits:
CCH Pounder said:
[...] I think it's the greatest finale ever. This finale is what Vic Mackey deserves.

Previous review threads:

A question was raised in the review thread for the season premiere, about what position Julian was serving in this season. In rewatching the premiere today, I'd say that he's still a member of the Strike Team, based on three things: 1) the way he was dressed throughout the episode (always like a detective, never in uniform); 2) he interviewed a witness solo until Vic arrived; and 3) Claudette gives orders that include Julian on the team.

I missed the first 15 minutes because a friend called about five minutes before the episode started, so I'm hoping to be able to watch it tomorrow.

I have work tomorrow night after class, though, so I'm not sure if I'll get to it before Thursday. :(

Another great episode.

I was really shocked that Billings was considerate to Vic in regards to Cassidy's complaint. And he did it with absolutely no strings attached. Just one father to the next. He rose up a little in my estimation for that.

That being said, I really hope the formula for the rest of the season isn't "Billings is a lazy bum on the job, Dutch does something unorthodox that half works, and Billings comes in at the clutch." Because if it does, that'll get real tired fast.

Lastly, Dutch had the best line of the episode: (to Claudette): "So you're a racist. How's that working out for you?"

Good episode. I thought the best line was: "So you can either send those kids down to booking or waterboard 'em."

A good episode. Not spectacular, but it does its job in moving the plot forward while showing (once again) how necessary Vic's presence is in fighting crime in Farmington and how the brass can be so out-of-touch and succeed only in stirring the pot due to their unfamiliarity with with the streets (the Top Ten list and the terrorist scare).

I finally had an opportunity to watch "Snitch" tonight. Another solid episode of Vic and company cracking down on the streets.

I liked Vic pointing out that crime statistics in Farmington were down when Claudette said that stats were up city-wide. Despicable though his methods may often be, he certainly is effective. I wonder if Claudette herself has given any thought to what will happen to the Farm if Vic is indeed force out of the department. I was also amused when Phillips conceded "on a day like this, I can live with him."

I was feeling a little sorry for Ronnie at times. He may have been put in official command of the Strike Team, but I can't imagine he expected Vic would actually sit back and take orders - yet it's apparent during a few scenes that he's a little irked when Mackey keeps taking charge.

Dutch was a riot. As much of a pain in the ass as he can be sometimes, I do like it when he asserts himself, particularly when he decided to take all of the possible witnesses to the Barn. He does damn good work but really doesn't get any recognition from the brass.

As for some smaller characters bits:

  • The bickering between Danny and Tina is starting to get old.
  • Billings did something decent for a chance, giving Vic the benefit of the doubt. Anyone know for certain what "crime" Cassidy was referring to?
  • This episode again shows that Billings could be a good detective if he cared enough to put in some more effort, instead of always trying to profit off the department instead.
  • The "nigger" exchange with Claudette was awesome. Her responses were perfect. I wish someone would've slapped that little shit, though it looked like Claudette's final lines may have done the mental equivalent anyways.

I've grown to really enjoy Billings as a character, he adds something not found anywhere else in The Shield as well as being a great foil for the high-minded Dutch and Claudette.

I can't believe it's been seven seasons, this is one of the few mainstream dramas I watch though I guess it's not really mainstream for TV police drama.
