Here it is, folks. The premiere of the seventh and final season of The Shield.

It's been an incredible ride so far. I'll be sad to see it end, but I'll continue to enjoy the journey.

TV Guide synopsis said:
Vic challenges Shane and deals with threats to his family.

Meanwhile, a federal agent arrives in Farmington to investigate a recent wave of violence.

Woohoo!

I'm a newcomer to this show (having only recently watched the who series), but I can't wait for tonight's episode. :D

Oh, baby! I'll be DVRing and starting at the twenty minute mark so I can skip through the commercials. :p

It's being aired with "limited commercial interruption."

But I guess you've already reached that 20 minute mark by now.

Rocking episode! I was shocked when Ronnie pulled the trigger. Sure, it was planned, but it still surprised me. My only disappointment is that Billings is back. God, I hate that whiny little twerp.

A big war has now begun. I can only hope this means Franka Potente will return at some point.

Holy shit! What a rocking episode! This was a great way to begin the season. Ronnie killing that guy, whoa. I saw him briefly shooting someone in the previews and I started putting two and two together but still...

And starting a gang war? Oh, man, this is going to kick so much ass!

Also, I loved Claudette's lines to Billings.

A very good start to the season.

There's a lot to talk about, but it's late.

Question for everyone:

Now that Ronnie has committed an outright murder, how will this affect him? Does anyone else feel like that act is going to loosen him up so he can take a run at Shane later down the road or will it be a crippling blow to his conscience?

While the first choice may be extreme I personally believe that Ronnie's conscience is hardened. In my view, Ronnie is the one guy on Strike Team that most resembles Vic. Granted, Vic is a macho alpha and Ronnie is much more laid back, but in terms of pragmatism and the practical handling of their business Ronnie has shown himself to be quite deft, willing and discreet. This is a sharp distinction from Shane, who, while just as willing as Vic and Ronnie, lacks their intelligence and seems to function much more out of his base nastiness and tendency to panic.

If the circumstances so arise, will Ronnie calculatedly do Shane the way that Vic calculatedly did Terry? Consider also Ronnie's new position as Strike Team Leader.

Also:

Strike Team's arranging of an all-out gang war between three brutal factions for their own personal safety is fucking epic.

I don't know if it was the long break since the last episode, or knowing that Mackey is pretty much at the end of his rope, but I just couldn't get into it last night. Maybe I'll warm up to it as the season progresses, but I just found myself not caring about these characters anymore.

Like I said, the LONG break didn't help matters any.

It's funny, this is one of those shows I could give a fig about except when it's actually on. I've had Season Three sitting on my shelf for like a year and I never feel like seeing it, but watching the premiere tonight I was completely into it. Good premiere. I was surprized to see Vic working with Shane again but its a nice development.

Best moment of the show? Ronnie casually saying "no, that's not necessary" before executing the hitman. :D I love Ronnie. He's the cool headed loyal one who never causes a problem. I'm excited to hear he's officially in charge of the Strike Team now.

I can't believe it's been a full year since the last episode. Thank god I read the wiki synpopses or I wouldn't have remembered jack. I thought Julian was on the Strike Team, but he certainly didn't seem to be in this episode.

And what happened to Franke Potenke? Is she off the show? They talk about her but don't show her.

When we last saw her character, Diro, she had fled to Europe. I'm betting and hoping that Potente will return later this season.

This was an excellent start to the season, though I'm only going with "Very Good" on the poll so that I don't go overboard with too many "Excellents" as the season progresses.

Now that Ronnie has committed an outright murder, how will this affect him? Does anyone else feel like that act is going to loosen him up so he can take a run at Shane later down the road or will it be a crippling blow to his conscience?
I don't think it will affect him in a negative manner; that is, I don't think it'll trouble his conscience all that much. He may be distant for a few episodes, as he was in this one -- commented on by Vic and one other, I believe -- but I would see that more as Ronnie processing his actions. Ultimately, he's going to rationalize it through the simple fact that that hitman had been hired to kill Vic's family. Ronnie is just as loyal as Vic, albeit not in the bulldog manner that Vic embodies. I would agree with you that, out of all the members of the Strike Team we've had over the years, Ronnie is the most comparable to Vic.

If the circumstances so arise, will Ronnie calculatedly do Shane the way that Vic calculatedly did Terry? Consider also Ronnie's new position as Strike Team Leader.
The only way in which I could foresee Ronnie deciding to kill Vic is if he becomes convinced that Vic is a threat to his continued safety and freedom. I think it much more likely that he may decide to finish things with Shane, even if that ends up going against Vic's orders. Considering he wanted to transfer to SIS, it'll be interesting to see if any friction develops between Ronnie and Vic now that Ronnie is in charge of the Strike Team, or if he'll run things "officially" and Vic will be in de facto command of the team.

As far as the question about Julian goes, I'm not entirely sure what capacity he was in during this episode. Since he wasn't promoted to detective last season and was merely an officer on the team, it's possible that he was pulled and put back into patrol duty -- especially since, as Dutch remarked, the Barn is under-staffed at the moment. He did seem to head into the raid, though, in the same manner that a Strike Team member would, though that may have been more the result of his having been used as surveillance leading up to the raid and therefore not having time to change back into uniform. In any event, I imagine we'll get an answer to that question soon. If he's not on the Strike Team anymore, they're going to need another guy, since they only have Ronnie, Vic, and Shane right now.

I thought the episode was great. The shootout action scene with Ronnie was terrific, although I was afraid that as a season premiere shocker, Ronnie would get killed.

I like the last scene when all 3 of them are looking at LA downtown and they say that they just have to standback and let the bloodshed begin. Crrraaazzzy!
