The Series Music

Well, this thread is for discussing the musical side to Star Trek. But, the question I really want to ask is:

What theme music is your favourite? (Series)

My personal favourite is DS9's theme music. It is quiet at the beginning but launches into an exciting array of noise. If I was a person who had never watched DS9 in their entire life, I would assume that Deep Space Nine was a series that held many adventures to it's name. The music for me is a 'brave' tune. It's not quiet.. well, at least not after the beginning. The beginning itself is quiet. I think this is because it's as if you, the viewer, is drifting in space, admiring it's beauty.. when all of a sudden, you see this thriving Space station, which brings so many coultures and species together.

Opinions? What is your favourite Series theme music?

I like the DS9 theme tune too, although I get the impression it's not that popular overall. Seeing the comet and hearing that music always takes me back to when I originally saw the show in the late '90s. My favourite, however, is either the TNG music or the Voyager music. I also quite like the TOS theme tune, especially the fanfare. The Enterprise theme music wasn't to my taste at all. I'm all for a song with lyrics, but Diane Warren and Russell Watson? No thanks.

Difficult choice between DS9 and VOY, but I'll give the edge for VOY... just.

TNG for me is the worst, not because of the actual theme, but because of the way it sounds.

I'm going to have to go with the theme from Star Trek (original series), 'cos it's the sound of my childhood.

Don't know if it counts, but I like the music to the opening scenes of the two part "In a Mirror Darkly" from Enterprise. That should have been the opening music for the entire series.

DS9 (seasons 1-3) has the best opening theme, IMO. However, VOY has a great theme and better visuals, which gives the opening sequence a better overall rating.

Personally, I don't think Star Trek has ever had bad music. Yes, that includes Enterprise's opening theme. However, for no reason at all, my personal favorite is Voyager's theme.

Best main theme and best music overall: Trek TOS, hands down. In some third-season episodes, the music was better than the story or the acting.

I always thought Jerry Goldsmith's theme for STTMP, recycled for TNG, sounded a bit too martial. The Voyager theme sounds like a hymn or an anthem. The background music in all the post-TOS series is auditory wallpaper.

TOS does have the only theme that I could play on piano and have people go "Oh, Star Trek!"

My ear training teacher also used it (the first two notes) to teach the minor 7th.

For me I think it's DS9. The TNG themes, adapted from TOS films, were really cool at first - it seemed to go well with what at the time were the amazing visuals (for TV), but I always skip it now because it's just so jarringly loud and brash, especially at the end of the episode.

I have to agree with this and say DS9, though Voyager is pretty close.

As much as I love the TNG theme, it always works better in movies than on the TV. Or maybe its just that the visuals are just the Ent-D flying back and forth annoyingly...
