the second hand

Rÿcher

Fleet Captain
have you ever looked at the clock and swore you saw the second hand go backward for a second or just stop for several seconds?

What's up with that?

It's no optical illusion, I've seen lots of clocks do that, the wall-mounted office/school kind that tick-tick-tick their movements in defined gradients. I'm sure there is a mechanical reason, possibly related to some kind of hysteresis or slipping.

You're not Japanese, are you ?

No

Duuuude.... Time to cut back on the weed!

not this time

This happened to me one time right after an eclipse.

I claim joke infringement!

It was an homage.

Did the clock correct itself when the eclipse was over?

I rule in favor of Hermiod in the amount of ten billion quatloos or the equivalent sum of ten strips or gold-pressed latinum plus time cleaning up the sticky floors in TNZ .

One of ours does occasionally go backwards too - In those cases, it just needs a bit of percussive maintenance :)

My parents are of the wristwatch generation (those that feel naked without being chained by the wrist to the correct time) and are unable to program the timers in their appliances: the only clock they have in their home hangs above the bar and is one of those that actually goes counter clockwise, plus it isn't changed twice a year. -I NEVER know what time it is when I'm there :rommie:
