The scores

Nerdius Maximus

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
What's your favorite? Mine's probably TSFS, followed closely by TWOK and TMP. They were all good, though. Even 4 had its moments. 6 had a great score, too.

tmp and tff, though I probably play twok the most, since it is like a 'best of every composer ever' kind of score.

Here is my list in order of preference and favorite tracks from each:

STTMP (the pinnacle of Trek music) - Main Title/End Title, The Enterprise
TWOK - Genesis Countdown, End credits
TFF - The Mountain, End credits
TSFS - Stealing the Enterprise
TUC - Sign off/Suite End credits
GEN - Jumping the Ravine
INS - Bak'u village, The Healing Process, End credits
FC - First Contact
TVH - Home Again: End Titles
NEM - The Scorpion

I wonder where Trek 11 will rank amongst these soundtracks. I read that Mr. Giacchino is somewhat apprehensive about joining these ranks. Let us hope his notes will be as inspired as those who preceded him. A score that evokes the sensation of "boldly going" will serve this film well.

I'd pay some good money to see the Pops or the BSO perform Goldsmith's complete TMP score live. I think that in 50 years the TMP score will still be around like great opera music or other classics.

the main theme of "first contact" is probably my favorite from the movies, but scores over all, TFF would be my favorite.

TMP was excellent also.

I think the TOS movies just had better scores.

I feel like he is up to the task. He respects and know the music from the other films. He is definitely a capable composer. His music for Lost is very original and he has had some success on the big screen as well with The Incredibles and MI:3. I'm curious as to what themes from the other films he is going to use. The Courage Fanfare has to be there but other than that I think its pretty much in the air.

Given that the new film is supposed to take place before TOS (though exactly when is up in the air), I would only expect Giacchino to draw on music from the show, not the films. I'd love to hear the "Amok Time" fight music, not to mention a few good orchestra hits and maybe even that love theme Courage wrote for Pike and Vina in "The Cage."

I absolutely adore the Boston Pops and John Williams. But the one time the Pops recorded the theme to TMP, under Williams direction, I have to say that they butchered it. The tempo was all wrong. Drags way too much for the TMP theme.

But, perhaps they'd do better with it under Keith Lockhart?

I have to say that the score to TMP is my all-time favorite movie score. "The Enterprise" and "Illa's Theme" really make the movie to me. I think it's the most original, and most, I dunno, "complete" of the movie soundtracks. It really gives the film a more epic feel.

They're all good. A few stand-outs, in no particular order:
Main title: First Contact
A busy Man: TFF
Genesis Countdown: TWOK
Klingons:TSFS
Stealing the Enterprise: TSFS
Right Arm: NEM
Main Title: TMP
Baku Village: INS

TFF - The Mountain, End credits

Although TFF is not my favourite of the movies, I also just love the music while Kirk is climbing the mountain.
