Some of the sales links suggest it's being released on the 24th of March.

There was a rumour a while ago that Smugglers was being animated, I wonder if it was mistaken for Savages or if that is still in the pipeline.

Probably better story than its reputation as 'the dull late Hartnell; with no monsters' suggests. Whether the animation will make that OK, given that its strength probably lay in inventive direction we can't see (aside from the telesnap hints)....

Fantastic news. I've always been a big fan of The Savages (based on a fan reconstruction, probably Loose Cannon's) and felt like it didn't deserve its reputation. The animation looks better than some of the recent animated missing episodes which is a big plus. I'm looking forward to this release, especially since this is Steven's final adventure.

Loved the novelization as well, definitely am looking forward to this release!

Dodo and Steven look terrific. Hartnell's not got quite the forehead, but it's not Hartnell's worst likeness or story, either.

I wonder if the 3D stuff will continue - "Toymaker" works solely because of the story's vastly surreal elements and makes use of that to terrific effect. "Web of Fear", a far more conventional story, was when this technology was new with learning curve and all... The 3D fan recreation of "The Wheel in Space" is good, perhaps overrated, and why not go all the way and use the proper theme instead of the wet squib tinkle music, but the partial 2D recreation of pt 1 also just looked better all around.

I only have the wiped episodes that still need to be animated, then i will have the entire collection 1963-1989, as i already have all the restorations dvds safely ripped to a couple of HDD and the DVDs stored away nice and safe.....so keep these coming please.

It's on the record that, despite his minor role in the actual episode, Hartnell was at rehearsals so he could teach Jaeger his tics.

I like how the animators had him clutch his lapels Hartnell-style.

I see on the wiki that Jano was played in blackface, which they've mercifully dropped in the animation. It says the title was originally The White Savages and they were going to have all the Elders in blackface oppressing the "white savages" as a commentary on apartheid -- thank goodness wiser heads prevailed, mostly. (Gene Roddenberry's original series pitch document for Star Trek includes a story premise along the same lines.)

Seems the Elders do have a darker skintone in the animation. but not like what was seen in the actual serial/

No, I don't think so. It's clearer in some photos than others, but Jano was clearly made up with shiny dark pancake makeup, not unlike a Star Trek: TOS Klingon:

The animated Jano is just sort of ambiguously tan, and has brown hair rather than black.

I meant to type "not like". Corrected.
TOS Klingon was what came to mind when I saw the stills
Yes Jano is now "tan".

As the documentary points out, an influence may have been Fable, a Wednesday Play where Britain was an apartheid society run by a black minority. Some saw it as a great satire on South Africa, others as a warning of what would happen if 'they' got out of their place.
