I always thought that Alec Baldwin's acting in that movie was quite "Shatneresque".I also agree with the recommendations for The Shadow.
A very late reply, I know, but whatever: I might agree if Cliff and Jenny were getting together for the first time during the denouement. But since they start the movie as a couple, it's just not terribly exciting to see them reunited. Though I'm sure it was imposed on him, Johnston got the ending right with Cap: the hero is summoned to a new mission. And the last scene was a huge fail - the studio wanted and was planning for sequels, so how could they not end it with Campbell being called upon to use his talents for a super-secret spy mission against the Nazis in Europe?
To be honest, given what we saw of them in the Nazi propaganda, pitting Nazi Rakettruppen against the Rocketeer would be epic material for a sequel.
That definitely would have been cool to see in a sequel, but I don't think there was any need to start anything at the end of the first movie.
I thought Cliff ending up with Jenny and a new plane from Howard Hughes was the perfect end to that particular story. And besides, Peevy already had some plans drawn up for another engine, so clearly it wasn't the end of their adventures.
I LOVE The Rocketeer. As well as The Shadow.
The Phantom?
Not so much.
Yeah, I watched my DVD of it about a month ago and it really is not that great. I guess in this age of blu-ray, the odds of a proper anamorphic DVD release are pretty slim.I was getting tired of watching that crappy old DVD version.
The Rocketeer was the first movie i saw in a cinema, so it'll always have a special place in my heart.
Jennifer Connelly fit the period as wonderfully as Hayley Atwell does in Captain America. Johnston has an eye for this.
Which is fairly miraculous, considering that not one photograph or drawing of 1930s women have survived to the present day. The man is obviously a genius among morons.Absolutely. He knows how woman looked like in the late 30'sJennifer Connelly fit the period as wonderfully as Hayley Atwell does in Captain America. Johnston has an eye for this.
