The Rikers - Endearing Frakes and Sirtis Interview

is it wrong I noticed how old they were in the interview?

If that interview is recent, they look better than they have in a while.

It has been 20 years since they started with the franchise...

Interview was very endearing. I miss those two more than any other Trek people, I think. Pity we won't ever see that sitcom. ;)

I think their both just as good looking. Riker was my favorite TNG character. That smile of his just added to the humor in the show.

Lol - Marina is sooo much more fun than Troi - I wish she'd been allowed to have more of a hand in how Troi developed.

I don't think it's fair to say they are approaching 60 though! Early fifties at most surely?

AFAIK Marina is 55 and Frakes is 57. Therefore, I don't see any problem with my comment. Also, what's so bad about being in the second half of your 50s? I really don't get this reproachfulness about people getting older. Believe it or not its going to happen to you too and I hope no one will hold that against you.

However, I do agree with you that Marina seems a lot of fun and that Troi could have benefited from more involvement from her in the character's development.

Yeah, they look about right for someone who's 50 or even more. Next generation wasn't on yesterday!

Blimey how time flies! In that case they look in excellent nick! Mind you I don't expect the average lady would appreciate you describing 55 as approaching 60 - stick to 'early fifties'... and then knock 10 years off for good measure.

Two very fun people and I'm guessing the TNG set was a load of laughs. "My Zimbabwai" indeed.

I'd watch "The Rikers"!

I didn't care much for Troi, but Marina is a hoot. She was hilarious with Brent at Vegas in 2008.

The chemistry between Frakes and Sirtis is amazingly good.

p.s.- What's wrong with being in your 50s anyway? Eventually we will all be there (some of us are already there)! Haven't you people heard... 50 is the new 30!!

I would have rather have seen the Titan in These Are The Voyages instead of a massacre on the Pegasus episode. But an actual TV series based on the Titan: Heck no. That wouldn't be good at all.

That's a bit of a sweeping statement don't you think? Any series would always depend on the quality of the writing. I don't see why a Titan series couldn't have that. Granted such a series might have more potential pitfalls then a series with a new premise. It might also not have a potential for 7 seasons, given that Frakes, the lead actor in this scenario is very aimiable but isn't a heavy weight like Stewart. I could see it doing 2 seasons or a couple of mini series. Also, it wouldn't have to focus too heavily on the captain. DS9 manged quite well without doing that. Given such a framework I'm sure they could make something decent, maybe bring back Ron Moore. I read recently he would like to write for Star Trek again.

Actually, making a Star Trek show in a comedy vein is an entirely different animal that does have merit that might not be immediately apparent.
By dropping the element of doing serious sci-fi, they could cop to the broader, cultural aspects of their characters and the shows, which could be a lot of fun. Also, consider just how rich Trek is with comedic talent.

Comedy and Star Trek is a risky combination though. There are some good episodes like Deja Q, the Magnificent Ferengi or Little Green Men, but usually all out comedy tends to go wrong from what I remember. Just think of Profit and Lace! Humor in Star Trek works best for me when it's understated and dry, which is why I think Data and Odo are much more humerous characters than Quark or Neelix. In the end Star Trek has always been a mix of many things and I think that's why it has such wide appeal. If Titan were made it would have to reflect that and couldn't be all out comedy because I think that would bomb for being to singular in its scope.
