The real Plot.

I think alot of people have missed the real plot of this movie. it was not about good beating evil it was about the characters finding their place in the world. Kirk was a Iowa hayseed with no challenge in his life other then bar room brawls with cadets. Spock recognizing that logic cannot solve every conflict. Then the both of see their strength and weakness's in each other and learn to work together to solve a crisis.

You know, just out of curiosity, has anyone ever tallied up the death toll of the original series? I mean, Nomad alone killed billions of people, and I think the Doomsday Machine had a few tens of millions notches on its belt, as well.

 I didn't even know the ''DOOMSDAY MACHINE'' wore a belt! how the hell did I miss that one?

Yes, that is so true. The message of the movie was the need for balance and unity.

Kirk was intuitive and practical, but needed to be balanced by Spock´s emotional and logical sides and vice versa. Every scene in the movie featuring them made that clear.

But it wasn´t told in the usual talky Trek way, but in a more visual and emotional way. That is why lots of folks are missing it.

And that type of balance and unity is just what the US and Europe need now to conquer the economic crisis as well as global threats such as terrorism and the rise of a very nationalistic China. So see there was social commentary in the movie.

Been watching the "edited for time" syndicated versions? :p

I liked the parallel that, in the revised continuity, both Kirk and Spock lost a parent and in doing so they were both changed. This brings the two men together in a new and interesting way that only a reboot could have accomplished.

The defining moment was when Spock was pummeling Kirk and he realizes that Kirk was right. The other moment was when they were on Old Spocks ship and Kirk leaves to rescue Pike both of them know what they are doing is the right decision.

It's a coming-of-age story. This afternoon I was suddenly struck by how much it reminded me - in considerable detail - of a juvenile sf book that I read over and over when I was about eight. I may write something about that.
