Since it makes noises like a whale, the probe is pretty much an evolved whale that transformed and is floating around in outer space.

    makes total sense

Which was delayed from sale for about 6 months because of the movie coming out.

IIRC The TVH novelization had some kind of dialog between the whales and the probe, and then the Probe novel went into more detail about the probe's origins or whatever.

Anyway, I look forward to more substantial discussion topics than this in the future.

No, the whale probe is not an evolved whale! It's a model that was based on the description of the abandoned space station from Arthur C. Clark's novel "Rendezvous with Rama".

Why cant it be an evolved space whale? There's alot of already weird crap that went on in the Star Trek Universe anyway

Sisko's mother being a cosmic space being
    Data having other siblings
    people de-evolving into creatures
Warp speed shenanigans turn people into outer space lizards and have babies
    Abe Lincoln
salt sucking hairy vampire type monsters
    sludge tar like beings
dream/nightmare beings like the weird clown in Star Trek Voyager
Data having weird dreams where Deanna Troi or anyone can be turned into edible cake
all your personal problems can be solved by the holodeck to save the day
transporter mishaps combining two people into one or cloning people etc

Don't ask us, ask the authors of TVH novelization and Probe.

Besides wondering about evolved whales into outer space probe thingies,

Did Kirk and gang ever get to eat the rest of that pizza and drink whatever was left of the michelob?

    Why can't it not be?
"It speaks whale so it must be a whale" is pretty thin.

I'm wondering if Spock did more mind melds so that the universal translator could be programmed for humpback.

Revised against the authors wishes….but if it were damaged it might explain some of the overkill…

Why would a whale evolve into a giant bleating tootsie roll with a retractable dingaling?
