The "Pavel Checkov" (sic) Facebook account associated with Renegades

Does anyone happen to know who runs the "Pavel Checkov" page; specifically, whether it is Walter Koenig himself or some other person(s) involved with Star Trek: Renegades? Just wondering. Thanks!

Re: The "Pavel Checkov" (sic) Facebook account associated with Renegad

I think Koenig would have spelled the name correctly.

Re: The "Pavel Checkov" (sic) Facebook account associated with Renegad

You'd think, wouldn't you? But it clearly seems to be someone who works on Renegades, and you'd think any of them would spell it properly.

Re: The "Pavel Checkov" (sic) Facebook account associated with Renegad

You know, I'd really like for Renegades to be a terrific fan film. But stuff like this makes me wonder.

Re: The "Pavel Checkov" (sic) Facebook account associated with Renegad

I know what you mean.

Don't tell me they don't use literacy in the 24th century...

Re: The "Pavel Checkov" (sic) Facebook account associated with Renegad

This verdict is written on a cocktail napkin, and it still says "guilty", and "guilty" is spelled wrong!

Re: The "Pavel Checkov" (sic) Facebook account associated with Renegad

Wow, there is a post about this? Weird

I created both the official Renegades page and that the Pavel page. The Pavel page is just a bit of viral advertising to complement the official page.

So are you wondering why its Checkov instead of Chekov? That's easy, blame Facebook for that. When I created the page, it was Pavel Chekov, but a month later Facebook notified me that it was against is policy to use fictional names so I had to change it, if you try to use certain popular fictional names it wont allow it (try it if you don't believe me ;) ). So, I changed the name to Checkov (after Anton Checkov) . I posted this amusing little story on the wall to explain it:

"Hmmm... It would seem that Facebook was infiltrated by Romulan agents. They would not let me use Star Trek Renegades or my name Pavel Chekov, so I was forced to use my ancestors original spelling of our family name, Checkov. Many people don't know this, but I am a descendant of the famous writer, Anton Checkov! Back in the 22nd century, my great grandfather changed the spelling of our name to Chekov, he had some sort of issues with silent letters..lol"

That post was from May 2013, so I can understand why you might have missed it, just needed to scroll down a bit to get your answer.

So there you have it, If you have any other questions please let me know.

Thanks for responding, Tom! Figured there must be some reason... although I've always seen Anton's name spelled as Chekhov. :)

Re: The "Pavel Checkov" (sic) Facebook account associated with Renegad

...and now the page is gone. :vulcan:

Sorry, if I was the cause of that, I didn't intend it.

So what happens if your real, legal name is the same as a fictional character?

Reminds me of an almost completely irrelevant story of what happened to a young Jack Benny on the vaudeville circuit. He was doing a violin act under his real name, Ben Kubelsky, and got a letter from a lawyer for the famous violinist Jan Kubelik threatening to sue him just for using his own name.

He then started going by the name Ben K. Benny, whereupon he got a similar angry letter on behalf of bandleader Ben Bernie. Thus, out of multiple threats of litigation, "Jack Benny" was born.

LOL. I have no idea if this is true, but is certainly funny! :guffaw:

Facebook has locked out the page and wants me to prove its a real person (does anyone have a fake ID for Pavel I can use? LOL just joking) . They are cracking down more on fictional person accounts. This was just a viral account to complement the official page, so if its lost I'm not going to worry about it as long as our official page remains intact.

Re: The "Pavel Checkov" (sic) Facebook account associated with Renegad

How exactly are you supposed to "prove" you're a real person?

Scan a copy of your driver's license or passport and email it to them? Because I certainly wouldn't trust Facebook with that.

Yes, they want me to upload photo of my id (license, etc.). They say they would delete it in a week. Needless to say, I'm not going to do that. I don't trust Facebook.

So, you violated their terms of service and you're surprised they shut you down? :)
