A new sci-fi/RPG from Obsidian, makers of Fallout: New Vegas. Looks like it could be a blast...

Word has it that Obsidian initially pitched a 'Fallout New Vegas' style follow-up to FO4 but Bethesda turned it down, making 'Fallout 76' instead while Obsidian went ahead with this project. I think it's pretty obvious which of the two done messed up! ;)

I'm glad Obsidian is still kicking (they came close to kicking the bucket several times ostensibly), I am curious to see how this turns out.

    MS is making some moves.

This was likely in development well before Microsoft bought Obsidian, considering there is going to be a PS4 version and it is supposed to be released in 2019.

regardless of how realistic that release window ends up being (cough), that game would have never left the earliest stages of development without Obsidian getting bought (by whoever) i.e. securing significant external funding (and not just because they almost went belly up)

the scope they're going for is simply beyond what they were set up to do before (in their post-double-A phase)
