The Orville Season 2. weird stuff that goes on in the show

Especially episode 2 Primal Urges where Bortus spends more time with a hologram program and makes out with the hologram character than he does with his wife/husband Klyden

In real life, marriages and so on fail all the time for whatever reason. It's not exactly much of a stretch to swap magazine or video porn with 3D-holography, and if nothing else a hologram doesn't give transmittable viruses to the organic being using the system. Of course, a computer virus will go to any linked computer... but usually, for someone you say you "love", you don't give them a disease no matter how treatable it isn't, especially with "superbug" strains that should be a surprise to nobody prior to 2015. So no worries kids, in about 10 to 20 years, it's not inconceivable that no antibiotic may work for the "G with an A at the end" anymore. But I digress.

Klyden was born a female but had "the procedure" done as the usual Moclan ritual - a rich and obviously complex history left completely unexplored, and arguably should have been covered. instead of the development that the Kaylon got, which is fairly one-note: "Robot turns on its creator because it developed emotions and realized it was being abused", a trope done to death in sci-fi already. Not to mention the etymology of the word "robot" itself being a bit obvious as well. But I digress again.

Basically social commentary on porn addiction.

And a fairly decent one at that; it's one of season 2's better episodes IMHO.

The only thing better would have been for the peddler of the circuit to have sneezed and given Bortus a virus to go along with the computer one.

I can guarantee you right now, with the way OnlyFans works and how many people have a porn addiction....
If something like a holodeck ever became real, there will be people of all genders who will sell their likeness for a good amount so other people can have sex with their holo-versions on a holodeck.
And unless you're in an open relationship, that will not sit well with any partner if they would find out.

Not to mention the various privacy and likenesses and issues that will crop up. See Quark creating a Kira Hologram type situation. And, yes, the advent of technology is only going to make this worse because it is infinitely accessible, easy to get to, constantly changing, and a variety that no partner will be able to compete with.

I mean, I think part of it was what created the rift between Klyden and Bortus in the first place. There was a damage of trust because Bortus didn't know about Klyden's past, and then the ritual with Topa and the challenges that brought. Of the relationships on Orville this one has lots of personal strife in and out of it that led to the challenges the couple faced.
