Spoilers The Originals Season 4 Discussion

Fleet Admiral

Season 4 of The Originals stars tonight, and I couldn't be more excited. The new season will jump ahead 5 years after the Season 3 finale, and pick up with Marcel having ruled of New Orleans for all that time, with Klaus still his prisoner and the other Mikealsons still in Hayley's care while they sleep.
One of the biggest new additions to the show this season will be Summer Fontana as the now 7 year old Hope.
We will be seeing pretty much all of the surviving cast from last season return, along with guest appearances by Seasons 1-3 regulars Danielle Campbell as Davina Clare and Leah Pipes as Camille O'Connor, whose characters both died last season. We will also be getting a several new recurring characters, Christina Moses as Keelin, Sleepy Hollow's Neil Jackson as Alistair Duquesne, and Teen Wolf's Keahu Kahuanui as Eddie.
The Originals is in my top 5 shows, so I'm really looking forward to this. I can't wait to see where they take things after the end of last season.

The season is off to great start with these first two episodes.
I was a little surprised they woke the Mikealsons up so soon, I was expecting a least a few episodes without them to build up to a big return.
Marcel and Vincents roles as leaders of the city have given us some interesting stuff.
Marcel's confrontations with first Rebekah and then the whole Michealson clan were great moments.
The stuff with Josh was pretty fun this week, he's been one of my favorite characters since the beginning and I'm glad he's managed to survive this long.
I'm curious if something is going to happen to run Rebekah and Kol off since they are both just recurring/"special" guest stars.
I've been watching Wild Wild West on MeTV recently and it's funny to think that was canceled because people thought it was to violent. The people who thought that would probably have a heart attack if they saw this. Hell, this episode alone we saw Rebekah get repeated shot with a crossbow, a dude get impaled on a metal spike and someone get their heart ripped out. Then last season we got a scene where Elijah literally punch a guy so hard in the face his head flew off.

I'm curious as to who the Big Bad will turn out to be this season - as it's an abbreviated season and we're already two episodes in, we should be getting some sort of suggestion by now. After the witches in Season One, Aunt Dahlia in Season Two and the First Turned in Season Three - this presumably ties into the ouroboros symbol that Vincent saw, possibly tied into the Jormungandr myth.

But I'm wondering if Hope could be the Big Bad this time, somehow?

Glad that Klaus is out of the prison already - and can be back to his regular swaggering and charismatic self. That said - is that supposed to be the mansion from the first season they've rocked up at. IIRC, it was outside of the NOLA city limits. I can't remember what happened to it in the first season as they all seemed to relocate to the city centre villa.

I've been wondering if Hope my end up being a big bad too. We already know she has some kind of connection to the ouroboros and we did see the her looking at the blue light the kid and Vincent saw, so we already know she has some kind connection to it/them.
I'm also curious just how bad things are going to have to get for the Mikealsons to actually end up back in the city.

I continue to enjoy this show, though I am always leery of big bads that are in the shadows. I don't know if the actor/actress is going to be compelling until I actually get a chance to see them in the role (beyond fancy light shows).

I'm also curious just how bad things are going to have to get for the Mikealsons to actually end up back in the city.

I assume the big bad will be after Hope, and the Michaelsons will have to convince Marcel to let them back in the city in order to defeat the common threat. Alternatively, Marcel may even be the one doing the asking (depending upon how bad things get for New Orleans).

Edit: Personally, I would be hesitant to make Hope the big bad. I like the effect she has on the other Michaelsons (forcing them to try to be better). I also very much hope they don't go the cliched route of having mystical powers turn her into an adult.

Me too. I think at this point she's old enough that they can do a lot with her without having to age her up.
As for who goes to who for help, I read an interview with the show runner on TVGuide's website that made it sound like Vincent and Marcel will go to the Mikealsons.
I like the fact that the who/whatever is behind the Ourorboros is connected to Vincent. I liked him last season, and look forward to them continuing to develop his character.

The problem with Vincent for the majority of the last season was that he spent a lot of time doing very little - not really coming into his own until they'd killed Davina, made Camille a vampire and had Rebekah put back into her original body. At this
point, he was the sole source of arcane knowledge in the main cast outside of the Michaelson family and they had a use for him, which they have continued to exploit by maneuvering him into being the Regent /Leader.

Thinking about it - could it be possible that the ouroboros is somehow connected to the Fauline Cottage from the second season? They never used it again following Rebekah and Freya escaping.

Watching the latest episode - convinced that we're going to get some sort of First Witch scenario, and that it's going to take possession of Hope after the showrunners have said that she's the most powerful witch to have existed, it would be natural that the Hollow would go after her (it went after Klaus and Marcel due to being the Original Hybrid and the only remaining Beast/Upgraded Original and they were probably the most powerful mystical players around - in fact, did the Hollow manipulate events to put itself into their proximity to get to this point?)

All of the stuff with Hayley's parents did seem to hint that The Hollow is playing much longer game than we had thought up to this point.
Having it appear to Klaus as Micheal was a nice surprise.

Looks like I might not be far off the mark with my hypothesis about The Hollow being a sort of First Witch scenario - as highly doubt they'd try and resurrect either Aunt Dahlia or Esther (again).
