The Onion (satirical news) Woo, meh or boo?

I'll be the dissenting voice.

It does what it does pretty well, but I've found satire as a form of comedy less and less funny over the years, unless it's really razor-sharp. There's too much cheap satire without a real point and with fuzzy logic. The Onion's satire is often lazy so I don't read it regularly

I agree, same with The Daily Show. I found it very funny the first time I watched, but the longer I watched, the more the peaks and troughs became more pronounced. I no longer check it every week now.

Northern Ireland had it's own version, www.portadownnews.com. It finished when the editor was "outed" by a local rag for working on the site while at work. Did him the world of good it seems as he's now working on political commentary for a living. Best thing was, it meant it went out on a high, if he'd tried to continue into our times of peace, he might have struggled to make things as funny.

The written Onion stuff is fan-fucking-tastic, especially if you read it in the actual paper that you subscribe to. LOVE IT.

The videos turn me off in a major way. They are all too overdone and too long - as if someone gave an improv group a million dollars and told them to go crazy. They need editing and .... something is missing.

I love the Onion, especially the videos. When I have some free time in need of killing, I just sit down and dig through the video archives.

It's humorous but I'd say on a "meh" level.

The Sony device thing was funny but I liked the keyboardless Powerbook one a lot more.

The Onion just doesn't work with video. They never should have added that as a regular feature.....I'd also be in favor of some kind of return to a regular column by T. Herman Zweibel. Once a week would probably be too often, but he should be a semi-regular contributor again.

The videos are hit and miss for me. The above mentioned Sony and Apple ones being two of the former.

The Onion is hit-or-miss for me nowadays. While the headlines can still consistently elicit a laugh (a few months back, one that read "Twisted Sister members say they are now willing to 'take it'" had my office rolling), I'm not a huge fan of the Family Guy style of comedy that says, "Hey, if we reference something else in pop culture, that means it's funny! Gold, Jerry!"

The Onion doesn't do that all the time, but things like the recent Sony piece really didn't work for me at all.

I love the Onion. My favorite video is the one about the laid off CEO whose job was taken by a Mexican immigrant.
