The Onion (satirical news) Woo, meh or boo?

What's his face

Rear Admiral
I'm referring to http://www.theonion.com/content/index, the satirical news website.

I for one find it absolutely fricking hilarious. I check it every day and I have a mini-orgasm every time there's a new video released. I love the deadpan delivery of the most ludicrous material and the really high production values make it look just like real news.

However I also know that some people don't like that kind of humour or find the jokes repetitive.

What about you?

I check it out once in a while. I just saw Sony's latest device. Funny stuff!

WARNING: There is some pretty explicit swearing in the clip so be careful where you watch it.

:guffaw:Reminds me so much of my man trying to set up our set top box. "But this doesn't make sense:brickwall:". "Maybe you have to put that little black lead into the back of the tv?". Shouldn't be mean but he's a programmer not a AV man and women read the manuals:lol:

It's often good for a laugh, but the left-wing bias gets old.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of The Onion. My favorite article is either "Frito-Lay Angrily Introduces Line of Healthy Snacks", "US Ambassador to Bulungi Suspected of Making Country Up" or "Cheney Vows to Attack US if Kerry Elected".

I'll be the dissenting voice.

It does what it does pretty well, but I've found satire as a form of comedy less and less funny over the years, unless it's really razor-sharp. There's too much cheap satire without a real point and with fuzzy logic. The Onion's satire is often lazy so I don't read it regularly.

Occasionally they have a truly bitingly sharp piece and that's funny though. Satire is one of the easiest forms of comedy to do, but one of the hardest to do superbly well.

I'm a big fan of Political Satire and unlike most of my fellow Brits I think the Americans are good at it so it's a definite Yoo for the Onion from me!

Funny stuff, but it gets kind of old after awhile. I suppose everything does.

I feel the same way about the Onion as I do about people like John Stewart or Stephen Colbert..funny to check out occasionally, but kind of stuck in a rut with an overwhelming feeling of 'sameness' going on.

It's good, but it was funnier back in the '90s, before they relocated to NYC. Though maybe I just think that because it was more of a novelty back then. ("Death Star to open Day Care Center" may still be my favorite Onion article.)

I don't check it out every day, but I think it's very funny. That Sony piece was hilarious. "It's funny because it's true." :rommie:
