The Office: Dream Team and The Michael Scott Paper Company

Doh I was occupied watching "Innerspace" on youtube missed the first episode tonight.

Dream Team
Michael hosts a Paper & Pancakes luncheon for his new company. Dwight and Andy pair up for a hunting trip, while Jim is confused when a "rundown" is requested by Charles.
The Michael Scott Paper Company
Dwight finds his loyalties split between Michael and Charles. With Pam out of the office, Andy tries to become Jim's new confidant.

For those watching in Canada, it seems that Global aired the episodes in the wrong order--The Michael Scott Paper Company aired first, then Dream Team.

Nice to see they got their first sale, though--and from Pam, no less.

Liked the Dwight and Andy friendship in the second episode. Their dueling over the receptionist before they get caught up in the music and forget about her...and she was sort of digging the attention and then it just disappears. Then the ending where they showed Angela seeing that they had become friends...I enjoyed that moment.

I missed it because Oklahoma was on fire last night and everything was about that. I'll have to watch it online.

I like the overall arc, but a few things bugged me. I like the idea of Jim's antics not being appreciated by the new boss, but he's still a capable employee and they are making him out to be a bumbling idiot. Refusing to ask the boss about what he wants, tripping over his own words, etc. Also, Ryan is such a douche, I don't know how Michael still likes him.

I liked the Any/Dwight relationship and their interactions with the new girl were cool. I could totally see the Michael Scott Paper Company (MSPC for short, anyone?) becoming successful despite the ineptitude of the boss, crappiness of the office space, and lackluster abilities of some of the employees. I like that they are also still trying to advance Pam's character, rather than having her as the smart, funny receptionist who is somehow content being a receptionist for the rest of her life.

Kevin's stint on the phones was epic!

I'll be happy when this storyline is over and they're all back together again. I enjoyed the S3 Jim in the other branch story so much more than this. I still can't believe Pam quit to work ALONE with Michael but thank god she immediately regretted it. And I agree that Jim is coming off a little too clueless given how much Corporate likes him in past seasons.

Well, I think the idea was always that Jim was really a mediocre employee at best who basically just coasted, but got away with it because Michael worshipped him and thought he was a "cool guy," and Jan liked him as well.

Now when there's suddenly a humorless hardass from corporate who doesn't really care about Jim's personality, he's completely at sea. I actually think that it's pretty realistic.

Oh yeah, I liked the 'new' opening credits for 'The Michael Scott Paper Company,' that was a cool approach.

I think the idea is that Jim is a fine employee (he was, after all, a candidate for Jan's job along with Michael and Ryan, a job ironically held by his current boss. And he does tend to compliment Oscar as a voice of reason when he's not joking around), but that he's messing up in totally doofus ways because he's intimidated and is trying too hard to impress the guy. In the 2nd episode, it's more like half the stuff Jim is doing is to try and impress rather than to amuse.

^ I agree. They've made it out that Jim is a good employee and he does what needs to be done but as he said in this episode he doesn't "work harder then (he) should". He's not a paper selling demon like Dwight but he's still pretty good. He's now under someone who actually does the job of manager properly and Charles seemed to have accurately read that Jim was coasting under Michael and now expects more of him.

Liked how Jim connected with Charles for a day thanks to the soccer lie and thanks to Dwight it bit him in the backside. Dwight seems to be behaving himself and not acting as insane, I wonder if the reason is that he has applied for Michael's job.

When Charles first got there they said Jim's position as number two was not a real position, I always thought it was as when the branches merged Jan offered him the no. 2 position at Scranton. It was a funny moment when he tried to explain it to Charles.

Ryan still needs to die in a fire.

I enjoyed the music duo.

But I'm already bored with the new company bit. Bring 'em back home. And I can't believe that Jim has no idea what a rundown is, or worse yet when he doesn't, doesn't ask.

At this rate, he and Pam will both be unemployed soon...

I thought the whole "rundown" thing was funny because it is a great representation of the abstractness of some of the things you are asked to do in an office. "Please do this thing you've never heard of and send it to these people you've never heard of." And even when you do it, you receive no confirmation that anyone actually received it or used the information....it's like these weird little activities just keep you busy but don't actually mean anything. If you don't do it, it's likely that no one will even notice...

Anyway, the episodes were pretty good tonight. I don't really like Andy and Dwight being friends though. Ryan was funny but an asshole.

^ Or worse yet, they openly admit they don't need your information but require you to do it anyway. I loved the whole sequence with Jim because it's a believable situation at my old job. What a horrible place.

The new boss is a dick. Completely realistic, though. The actor playing him does a great job. To the point that it's depressing, almost, because it reminds one of real life.
