The Office: 6x07 - "The Lover" - Discussion

^ There's another Thursday before Halloween...

Pam isn't taking this very well. I liked Jim's initial reaction though.

Decent episode. Pam's histrionics were a bit much and unfortunately showed Jenna Fischer's limitations as an actress, but there were still some good moments. I'm still not a fan of this storyline though - I felt it weakened the wedding episode and is just too contrived. Loved the tape-recorder-in-the-mallard subplot. Eww to Ryan and his douchey hat.

I enjoyed it. Michael's discomfort when people turn on him is always priceless.

Did anyone else notice that little pitch for volunteerism during the meeting in the conference room? The networks, you see, are all taking orders from the White House. Volunteerism is the cause du jour and that's why it was in the script. This is happening on a bunch of shows. Maybe next time there should be something that promotes the concept of fiscal responsibility. Surely The Office could work that into a story.

Holy crap... now that you mention it last night's episode of Criminal Minds mentioned volunteering... and Glee had a charity ball thing... weird.

Slightly OT, but did anyone else think/notice that the lighting in the office was different than usual?

This episode was absolutely hilarious. The thought of Michael screwing Pam's Mom?! LOL. I missed the wedding episode so if this was a continuation of that I was unaware. Plus it was shocking and cool to see Pam actually freaking out and being a loud bitch to Michael like that.

Wow, I actually feel the opposite, that this episode showed how talented Jenna Fischer is. We very rarely see Pam this angry or bitchy and I thought she pulled it off wonderfully. Especially when she first finds out..."Who is it Michael?! Who? No no no."

The first half of the episode was really good, but the second half kind fell flat for me. Pam and Michael arguing wasn't funny. And I don't mean that it wasn't funny as in that the jokes didn't work for me. It seemed more like we are standing in the room where two friends are arguing and we are just sorta there feeling awkward.

Also, I realize and understand why Pam would be angry and mad and Michael, but I think she took it to far over the top to the point of hostility criticizing him during the meeting and the rest of the work day. Especially after Michael stood up and showed backbone. I would say that Pam's outburst would be comparable to Stanly's in "Did I Stutter?"

Then again, this is a TV show with only a little connection to reality, so I shouldn't be nitpicking. :p

I find it humorous and interesting that Jim seems to be picking up some Michael-like tendencies now that he's technically a manager too. I did love his initial reaction to the news and the reaction to Toby that both of them had.

I just wish that we'd actually get to see Jim be more of a "boss" than we have thus far. Granted, it seems to be nigh impossible for him to do that with Michael steamrolling anything Jim tries to do, but still...

loved this episode. I found it exemplified the office's best balance between awkward situation+humor.

and LOL at Creed telling Michael that's just wrong.
