The next DC animated series: Young Justice and Green Lantern?

A poster on the forums at actionfigureinsider.com who claims to have inside knowledge posted the following:

WB has 3 NEW series on their slate, Mystery INC- the new Scooby show, Young Justice, and Bruce Timm's CG Green Lantern for 4Q 2011. ALL for Cartoon Network.

It's Sorta THE Young Justice. They will be going out with this BIG TIME at Comic Con. From what I saw, it's Martian Girl, Aqualad, Nightwing, Impulse, Arrowette, and Connor Kent. The poster gives me the tone that it's a cross between JLU and TT. I liked the look a lot. It's not quite Timm-style, but it's not All Murikami'd out like Teen Titans.

The kids were the focus of the poster, in the center, but The JL was behind them.

Anyway. WB has some neat things in the cooker. The GL Animated series that Bruce is working on is GORGEOUS! I've seen about 5 minutes of CG animation and it's stunning. I'm not sure if it's taking place in any established continuity, but it's Hal, and he's in space.

This info about a Young Justice series has been given further credence by a blog post (since hastily pulled down) by actress Stephanie Lemelin in which she spilled the following beans:

I am beyond thrilled to announce that I was recently cast in the new animated series, 'Young Justice League', based on the famous (and awesome!?) DC Comics. I seriously could not be more excited about being welcomed into this amazing family… what a fantastic way to start the new year! I will be voicing the character of Arrowette (see ridiculously hot avatar below!!! um, could I love her anymore?) as well as several supporting cast members.

Actor Tequan Richmond also revealed on his Twitter account that he's read for the part of Aqualad, and he posted this pic of himself holding a pic showing Aqualad's character design:

The fact that the aforementioned insider's info about Young Justice seems to be on the money hopefully means the info about Bruce Timm producing a Green Lantern series is legit, too. I had assumed a GL animated series would be launched in 2011 because of the live action feature, but the news that it'll be a Bruce Timm show is awesome.

I'm guessing Martian Girl is just a new moniker for Miss Martian? That looks like a pretty solid group for Young Justice and not making them appear too "Teen-Titany".

Although I'd like to see Wonder Girl in the mix.

WB doing a fully CG animated show? That's a first. And I hope they're able to give it a visually distinctive look as they do with their 2D animated shows. I wonder how Timm character designs would translate to 3D, or alternatively how he'd have to adapt his style to work in a third dimension.

I'm not sure Green Lantern is a concept that would be as suited to 3D animation as 2D. I mean, in 3D CG animation, I don't think it's as easy to create new models for characters, landscapes, sets, props, objects, etc. on an ongoing basis as it is in traditional animation. At least, the 3D shows I've seen tend to use a finite number of characters, objects, settings, and the like, which suggests it's costlier to use more. (I recall a scene in an early Iron Man: Armored Adventures episode where Iron Man saved some motorists on a busy street from being crushed, and you only saw something like three human beings in the shot at any time.) A GL show would need to be sweeping and expansive and feature lots of different characters, places, objects, ring constructs, etc. I think that's easier to do with drawings than 3D digital models.

As for Young Justice, I'm not familiar with that, though I assume it's some kind of "sidekicks/teen counterparts of more famous heroes form a team" thing. I know who Nightwing, Impulse, and Aqualad are. Connor Kent is the Superboy clone, right? As for Arrowette, is she the same person as the female Speedy, Mia whatever, who's been showing up in Smallville? And I've never heard of Miss Martian or Martian Girl, but I'm assuming she's the Martian Manhunter's Supergirl counterpart. So is J'onn no longer the last of his kind?

How ironic I just read some Young Justice thanks to the Our Worlds At War trade. Any DC animation is a good thing in my book. And a Green Lantern series starring the entire Corps would be the coolest thing in the world!

Animated Green Lantern makes perfect sense, for obvious reasons. I'll have to be sold on Young Justice. I didn't care for Glen Murakami's Teen Titans series and YJ feels like more of the same.

Arrowette is the daughter of a woman who tried to be Green Arrows sidekick a long time ago when he had the original male speedy, but generally just ended up botching things. She then raised her daughter to be the superhero she couldn't with tons of hard training and things.

Miss Martian is a White Martian a different more combative race of Martians, but J'onn has had a TON of different Martians show up in his comics over the years. I think he's had his brother make an appearance, various enemies, etc... So he's definitely not the last of his kind in most of his comics anyway

Arrowette's the daughter of a Green Arrow pseudo-sidekick/distraction from the early days who used a similar codename (well, Miss Arrowette, but y'know). Standard highly-skilled (Gold Medal winning) archer with a hefty dose of martial-arts training. Took up her mother's name and role for a time after being heavily pressured into it. Interestingly, the Green Arrow page lists her as a "potential biological daughter."

ETA: Ahh, beaten to the punch.

I would imagine in the context of the show she'll function much as a Green Arrow "teen counterpart" (and with what looks to me as something of a costume upgrade based on what pictures I could find of the comics character outfit).
