Okay, so I just saw the new Star Trek movie. I was one of those skeptical people going in, but have to admit, I LOVED IT!!!
BUT....yeah, you knew that was coming, right?
For people to be going around saying this movie is far superior to any of the last few Star Treks we've had..well, these people are deluding themselves. I can name numerous episodes of Voyager or Enterprise that were far superior to this movie.
This opinion people are tossing around that the new movie is finally Trek being done right after years of it NOT being done right all boils down to one thing and one thing only. It's the first new Star Trek we've had in four years, after having TONS of Star Trek thrown at us constantly since TNG started in 1987. That's it, that's all.
This is coming from someone who loved the original timeline, and is so far, loving the new alternate reality. I've seen every minute of every Star Trek ever produced, but I probably viewed it differently then most people. See, I used to tape the show every week, and after about two months of shows were saved up, I would sit down and watch them all at once, then another two months or so would go by until I watched any more Trek. Did this since TNG started. So I never really got burned out on Star Trek, so the four year drought didn't really affect me too much, because I was used to going long periods of time without new Trek. (And during that four years, if I felt the need to watch some new ST, I would tune in to one of the various fanfilm series out there
)
That being said, I did love the new movie, but seriously, the story was no more outstanding than any other Star Trek production we've had recently. I hope they can step it up storywise for the sequel.
(It was great to see Nimoy as Spock one last time. A fitting end to his story.)
