The New Humans

"By the 2270s, New Humans made up a sizable percentage of Earth's population and were increasingly critical of Starfleet's cost, aims, and core values. Because of this, Admiral Heihachiro Nogura, a seasoned veteran, was made commanding admiral as his career was, in the media, very much a symbol of the purity of Starfleet's values. Nogura's renown among civilians and officers alike helped to quash the critics. (TOS novelization: The Motion Picture; TOS novel: Triangle)"

So whatever happened to the New Humans of the 23rd century?

They formed the basis of the sanctimonious human society we saw in the 24th century.

I've heard about the New Humans before when discussing the TMP novelization written by Roddenberry--it does bring to mind the fact that we don't really know that much about differing political and cultural strains among humanity in the 23rd and 24th centuries. I remembering reading (probably on this forum years ago) a neat theory that people like Jean Luc Picard adhered to some form of the New Human ideology in the 24th century.

So if the New Humans were Roddenberry's utopian ideal, but the New Humans didn't like Starfleet, which is the whole basis of the Trek universe that we all enjoy...
