Now that I've posted the pic above, it's interesting to note the difference in the stars even.
The 'new' Enterprise does not even come close to matching the beauty of Andrew Probert's Enterprise-refit design. So much care was put into that design and model. The attention to detail on the TOS movie Enterprise is really astounding when you realise they did not have any of the CGI technology that today's artists do.
It is a shame the new generation can't get past the 'ohh, that looks cool' mentality. The proportions of the new big E are all wrong. And don't get me started on the 'brewery' engineering deck.
did the tiles actually come off the enterprise or was it from the debris the enterprise hit? i couldnt tell. Now that I've seen the movie I like the new ship. I mean, I always did kinda like it, though the curved nacelle strutts used to bother me, but up on the big screen, in motion it's beautiful.
The only minor nitpick I had -
The only thing that bugged me a little watching the movie, and maybe I missed something but, when they come out of warp near Vulcan and there is all that debris floating around, they have their shields up, right? So why is it the top of of one of the nacelles gets scraped by a large piece of debris and tiles fly off of it?
Pretty sure they are the Enterprise's hull-plates.

Did we get a decent look at that area of the ship afterward? Because it seemed odd that there was no visible damage other than in the scene when it happened.
