The New Avengers: Steed, Purdey, & Gambit

I loved New Avengers as a kid. I saw it before the original and I always preferred that version. I found it more accessible. When I watch the 60s version it just seems too weird. Maybe I'm just not clever enough.

I wanted to get the DVDs but $70 for a 13-episode season (and there are two seasons) was a bit too steep for me.

I've only seen a couple of the Honor Blackman episodes, unfortunately, and I guess it's too late to find the A&E disks any more.

Casting a new Emma Peel is just impossible. Diana Rigg was and is one-of-a-kind. I really can't think of anyone today who's that beautiful and that sexy and that classy in just that way.

Maybe you can tell me why so much of the New Avengers was shot in Canada which was suddenly the focus for the entire Cold War:confused:?

Well it does sit between the US and Russia :)

it's called being cheap.

Didn't mind the The New Avengers though prefer the McNee/Rigg era of the old (haven't seen any with Linda Thorson and a few Honor Blackman).

Was interesting that in the New Avengers Steed went back to being the ladies man he was in series with Cathy Gale ( he would never of behaved that was with Mrs Peel).

I gather one of the reasons for the introduction of Gambit was McNee had back problems that impacted his ability to do some of the action stuff.

Though he and Diana Rigg have never had to much flattering to say about the producers of the Avengers - both loved the show and working together but the pay and conditions as the stars of the show were supposedly pretty poor.

Finally talk about Bond, Rigg, Blackman and Lumley all appeared in 007 films though Lumley's was just a bit part in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

McNee also appeared in a Bond (albeit, IMO, poor one) film...

Now that was a waste of talent.

I agree!
