The mysterious bow tie...(SPOILERS!)

Fleet Captain
SPOILERS

Alright, I have rewatched The Eleventh Hour several times now, and replayed The Doctor getting dressed many, many times using slow-mo and freeze frame, etc.

I am left with one question about the bow tie: Where exactly did he get it? The bright red bow tie is no where to be seen while the Doctor is dressing. He is very clearly choosing from three ties, two of which are blue and one of which is a brown and white pattern. No red, nothing even remotely red. Also, all three of these ties appear to be standard neckties, not bow ties.

How did he get from no bow tie to suddenly having it around his neck? The Doctor clearly doesn't even have the bow tie on him whatsoever when he asks, "Is this planet protected?" In the very next shot we can see the Doctor through the blue sphere of the various monsters he has battled. He is pulling on his tweed jacket (Rory was seen holding it in earlier shots, as well as other jackets but in no shot does Rory have the bow tie). Although it is a little hard to make out through the sphere, we see the Doctor pulling on his tweed jacket with the bow tie now magically dangling untied from his neck. As the monsters continue to flicker on the sphere, the Doctor ties his bow tie (confirming it is not a clip on...thank God).

Also, considering we have seen future pictures with him wearing bow ties of different colors, where did he swipe these from?

Final question: How many people here are going to learn how to tie a bowtie because The Doctor now wears one? :D Remember! His IS NOT a clip-on!

I am. I've been working on an 11th Doctor costume since I saw the first pictures.

Its a good question. Hell I can't even find a shot of him putting it on.

Maybe it was tucked in the trousers pocket?

Rewatch the moment when the monsters appear ont he blue sphere.

If you look very, very carefully then you can see The Doctor behind the sphere and he's tying the knot of the bow tie while the cybermen and other monsters flash upon the sphere.

It is very, very, very hard to see.

I would have loved to see him actually do the knot up close. Still, I am sooooo glad that it is not a bloody clip-on.

Sorry guys, I'm pretty sure it's a clip on!

When The Doctor walks through the door onto the roof you can see the band hanging out his pocket. Also if you look through the Atraaxi projection you can see him fitting the tie - looked like a clip on to me.

I wondered the same, but i just took it that either he had it in a pocket of the trousers and just thought 'ahh, it works' then i watched the scene again as sugested and i can see him tieing it, where it came from is a completely different box of frogs altogether.

Also, according to the confidential, he has two variants, a burgendy one and a Tardis blue one, you can see the changes in the various trailer scenes and other publicity material.

also, The moff and Smith have said that the outfit will "evlove" so well either see a change like Tennants or a drastic change for a few eps here and there.

But, it looks cool, bow ties are cool, well, they are now anyway. :techman:

Just rewatched that scene. It can't be a clip-on, you can see him fiddling with it around his neck. The costume might use a clip-on or perm-knotted bow tie for ease, but when getting dressed you do see him essentially tie it on, though this is a very hard to see shot through the blue sphere of monsters.

Bow ties are cool, but clip ons ain't. As far as I am concerned, the doctor knows how to tie a bow tie.

This makes me laugh...when 11 emerged from the projection of the previous Doctors in full costume, my wife exclaimed, "Where'd he get the bowtie?" :)

(And after weeks of vehemently denying that Tennant regenerated and the show is going on, after watching The Eleventh Hour, I think I got her to grudgingly admit that the show could continue without Tennant...I might just win the war after all...)

Well, thanks. I rewatched the scene now, paying very close attention. In the profile shot, when the Atraxi projects the "bad shit humanity does" montage in response to the question "Is this world a threat," the footage reverses halfway through. Luckily, the Doctor was bouncing back and forth on the balls of his feet, so they could get away with it (sort of), but it looks like they decided to make that shot a couple seconds longer with the special effects than they did when they were actually shooting it.

That's gonna bother me forever, now.

The mysterious bow tie, the fictional celery, the indestructible umbrella, and the impossible scarf.....the Doctor loves his metaphysical avatars... :techman:

Goddammit, @#$% you for posting that. :scream:

Yeah there's a few continuity goofs

The Doctor feels pain from the key in his pocket BEFORE he feels pain.
