The most you would spend on a book?

The most I've ever spent for a book was a little over $50, but I'd be willing to drop a few hundred if I thought the book was really worth it.
On a personal note, I've been mulling over buying Layne Staley: Get Born Again for years now. I wasn't able to get a copy in 2006. I'd hoped early on, the prices would have dropped, but they just kept going up and up (it's currently selling in paperback at around $300)!
The sad thing is, from what I've read in the reviews, the book isn't really that good. Bad writing and it doesn't really do justice to the revered Alice in Chains singer. At the same token, I've been an AIC fan for a long time and really want to read the book. I'm hoping that they release a Kindle version for $20 or so, though I'm doubtful and will probably have to bite the bullet and buy the book at some point.

What I'm willing to spend on a book depends on whether I think I'm getting a good deal or not. That's probably true for everyone, I suppose. For instance, I spent US$50 on a used book, but it was typically retailing for a US$200 new, so I was pleased that I got it for such a relatively good price.

Most of the books I buy these days are used. Only a few these days are worth paying full price for and most of those are older. Even fewer are worth buying in hardback.
Discounting the blasted textbooks, the most I've ever spent on a single book is $40 for a hardback copy of Robert Fagles' English translation of The Iliad.
