The most painful physical ailment you've experienced?

I had a herniated disk in my back that was pressing up against my spinal cord. Had a diskectomy that took out the herniated piece a few years ago. It's better, but it will never be the same, and at least I can move without being in constant pain.

You wimps.

I bet none of you have ever gotten a paper cut before.

We have a big plotter at work for printing construction plans. Soemtimes, we use mylar for record prints as it is more durable and lasts longer than paper. Mylar paper cuts hurt like a bitch.

My worst physical pain had to be the time I sat in a car with my MIL for 5 hours. I had serious thoughts about weaving into oncoming traffic.

I had a kidney stone last year. It was awful. I was crying and curled up in pain in the ER and the nurse had the gall to turn around and ask if it "really hurt that bad."

Had my first stone back in 2000. I was stripping 60 year old wallpaper (a very tough job) and began getting a dull ache in my lower left back. It soon developed into a pain worse than any toothache, broken bone, or scoliosis attack I ever had.

My wife finally got home and drove me to the ER. It was November and about 40 degrees, but I rode to the hosp with the air cond on full blast with my face right up to the vent, I was so hot.

I had three more stones during the next 3 years, but I keep them under control with concentrated cherry juice. My stones are uric acid (gout related), rather than calcium - so the tart cherry works great on them.

In high school, I worked summers at my dad's printing and paper box company. Try a corrugated cardboard cut - paper cut X2.

One day my heart broke...it was physically painful. :(

I know... :(

But we all still love you!!!!!!!! :)

My carpal tunnel syndrome is pretty painful sometimes, but honestly the worst pain I've felt has been cramps, I think I've been pretty lucky overall, but I don't think men can understand how painful menstrual cramps can be. I am guessing that my most painful experience will all change in April when I give birth. It won't be natural, but I still expect it to be rather painful.

I was waiting for someone else to say it. :D
The first time I had those cramps I didn't know why (at least not for certain)... It was as if someone was ramming my organs around with a hot knives. I was sure I was dying.

I guess the worst I've ever had was a ileo-tibial band syndrome-related knee sprain. It's one of two instances in my life I've literally shrieked with pain. I was a mile down a mountain (parked at the top) working a job all alone. I had been "pushing through the pain" of knee problems for a month (stupid) and finally, I took a step and the next thing I knew I was on the ground in agony, with my involuntary shriek ringing in my ears.

Let me tell you, the next mile of uphill hiking, alone, with bears around, with a sprained knee was a LOT of fun.

Still, I think my Dad's kidney stone wins out over my injury. He was being driven to the hospital, when he had to have the driver pull over so he could fall out of the car and puke on the side of the road because of the pain.

Man, cramps are horrible because they're painful but also frequent. I also get a bunch of other symptoms that range from puking to thinking everyone else is a bitch (hint: it's actually me). I've had other things that are more painful but when you add up everything that comes with cramps, they're just fucking annoying.

Had a compound fracture of my left elbow at 13, a lot of pain there.
But the worst was an attack of uric acid kidney "stones" (damn things were shaped like ninja stars and tore the tubes between my kidneys and bladder) I was in so much pain, I vomited. During one attack, I was on our front lawn and my 1st wife was backing the car out of the garage to take me to the hospital, I had the thought "Dogs eat grass and they feel better.." and I grabbed a handful of Bermuda grass before she stopped me from eating it... the hospital gave me morphine to very little effect.. took months with regular bouts of pain for everything to settle down..

Have also had a ruptured appendix some years later..was nothing compared to the kidney stones..
