Game The Most Disliked Romulan Episode/Movie

THE OBJECTIVE: A sudden-death elimination game in which we remove our personal favorite episodes from a themed list, until we arrive at the episode that is, if not the worst, at least the most disliked.

THE RULES: Below is a list of Romulan episodes/movies from TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, DIS, PIC, LD, and the Kelvin timeline.

Eliminate/save your favorite, or the one you deem the ‘best.’
Post something you love about the episode you are saving, and copy-and-paste the list with your choice removed.

You can use any standard you like to judge which option is "best." You can save episodes for being widely recognized “best Trek” classics, or for idiosyncratic qualities that no one appreciates but you.

But -- no tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you don’t think anyone else will, or because you feel it would threaten your preferred episode's chance to “win.”

You can take multiple turns. Leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

New players are always welcome, you do not have to already be a "most disliked game" regular to dive in.

Much thanks to @Farscape One for helping me vet the list! This is a tricky one, as those scheming Romulans incidentally pop up in a lot of larger plots, so the line of what counts as a "Romulan episode" can be quite vague. I keep tinkering with it, adding one ep, taking off another, so finally just calling it and clicking post -- I hope it feels complete to everyone!

"Balance of Terror" was one of the early greats -- not to mention a terrific debut for the Romulans. Mark Lenard was strong and memorable as the weary and duty-bound Romulan Commander, and the parallels between him and Kirk were skillfully drawn. The plot was well-paced and riveting, and the episode included a powerful lesson about prejudice, and a poignant statement about the price of war.

I'll go with TNG's The Defector first. It's one oy favorite episodes from season 3, with a great amount of tension between the Federation and the Romulans. It shows the Romulans at their most devious, and the great Tomalak makes another appearance. It's just a shame we didn't see more of him.

James Sloyan plays the role of Setal very well as well, though he was always good no matter what the character was.

In The Pale Moonlight is another great episode in a list full of them. Sisko's desperation at the Federation's increasing deaths during the war made him turn to Garak, and fake evidence to trick the Romulans into joining the war.

It's a morally grey show, with that brilliant ending when Sisko is recording his log, and baring his soul.

TNG Season 7: "The Pegasus"

One of the few times that season 7 dared to put life into a story, we get a bit of Riker backstory and evil admiral of the week that wouldn't have felt out of place in DS9. Add in the idea of a phasing cloak, scheming Romulan commander Sitol, and how Picard puts down his foot and orders the cloaking device shut down so Enterprise can appear in front of everyone in true Picardian stance. This story's a gem, well-told.

There are many on this list that I want to save. I will start with "Eye Of The Needle". It's the best of the episodes where Voyager tries to get home but we the audience know they won't be able to: there are multiple reasons which make sense why they can't get home and the episode has good dramatic tension. We and the characters don't know whether their messages home will get to their families until season 4. The Romulans knowing that Voyager is lost is really interesting world-building: did the Romulans put a spy on Voyager? The spy would be able to give them a lot of intel about Starfleet during the episode and as a result the Romulans would know that they need to put a spy on Voyager in their future, kind of a predestination paradox but in the Romulan's future. I think Vorik or the Vulcan Maquis character is the spy. This episode has some lovely moments between the EMH and Kes - and it didn't occur to anyone that they would be leaving the EMH behind and alone.

"All Is Possible" is a wildly good Disco. A fantastic exit for Tilly via a satisfyingly classic shuttle crash plotline. Saru & T'Rina! And a great story for Burnham as well, with Ni'Var rejoining the Federation.

An outstanding use of the VR wall also.

I was actually annoyed by this at the time -- "TV Trek is dead, it's a reboot, people understand it's just a reboot, you don't need all the timeline stuff!"
