If there was ever a bad bunch of episodes to vote from, it's this bunch.

I'll give my first vote to "THE CLOUD". It was a nice concept, the nebula itself being a lifeform. And while it wasn't executed well, at least they were trying to do something with Chakotay's heritage and seeing Janeway's animal guide be a lizard was funny.

I also go to "The Cloud" immediately. I actually have warm feelings about this episode -- not true of anything else here! It's definitely bad, but within that it's an early showcase for some delightful cast chemistry. I love Neelix's outrage at Janeway flying the ship into another anomaly.

Giving a point this round to Once Upon A Time. Probably the best "kids deal with PTSD" episode. Nelix's care of Naomi is endearing, even if misguided at times. It feels like the most classic Trek plot out of what's here, exploring the human condition. It's a fairly realistic view of a kid processing emotions in a really difficult circumstance.

Scarlett Pomers is exceptional in her interpretation of Naomi; She always has the exact look and tone of voice that makes it real. Compare that to other child actors that we've seen in the series and it's night and day.

FURY gets my vote for saving. While all these stories are fairly bad, at least FURY started out decently enough - what with Kes returning and using her esper ability to fry the ship in ways you wish they would have done in TOS by Gary Mitchell! Or at least by a scout troop as they whip out their marshmallows and pointy twigs to impale them on. But why, one might ask? FOR REVENGE, MOOHAHAHAHAHA! (And how to subvert it in a satisfying way worthy of 90s Trek, no matter what, of course...)

True, the episode goes downhill soon enough and its plot conveniences are too ridiculous to overlook as the whole story is less than the sum of its parts and makes one beg to wonder... especially as high concept extraordinaire Brannon Braga wrote this script, and if anybody could have pulled off such a story it'd be him... It's also another twist on time travel, albeit one that doesn't feel effective. But for all its problems and lack of charisma (some of the script and a lot of the acting is by-the-numbers, phone-in stuff), they had something of an interesting idea at one point.

I feel like I have to put a (tiny) good word in for "The Fight." It was trying to do something different, and didn't entirely fail; and you can't say Beltran wasn't engaged in this one. But mainly I'm plunking for the guest stars: Ray Walston as Boothby, and Ned Romero as Chakotay's granddad. Between Romero and Henry Darrow (Kolopak), Chakotay had the best relatives!
