The Most Disliked Episode of DISCO, 2023 Edition: Season 3...

Farscape One

Welcome to our bi-yearly 'Most Disliked Episode' games! Now that the 'Least Disliked Episode' games hosted by BlueStuff (who inspired me to create these games, so thank you very much for paving the way) have concluded, we can begin the opposite side of that coin.

Here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your most favorite or the one you deem the 'best.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win. Pretty simple. Enjoy!

Season 3... this was a better season than season 2, though it still had a number of flaws. Elements of this season are better, while other elements are worse. Just trying to find episodes to save is frustrating, because so many feel like they blend together.

But a standout for me was "Unification III". Great story and performances, and it was nice to see Vulcans and Romulans actually come together.

It's a weird season. There are good episodes and moments but also issues with serialization.

I really enjoy Forget Me Not as I was always a fan of the Trill since they appeared. I was a fan of Adira and Gray's relationship, and seeing the Trill homeworld again.

I'll save "There is a Tide..." mainly because I've got a soft spot for the 'Die Hard, but on a...' trope. Overall though I feel Season 3 is a lot stronger than 2. Feels like it does benefit from the time frame change.

Season 3 is when Disco clicked for me. Season 4 continued to improve, but season 3 is when I think they finally found their footing and decided on a coherent vision for what the show would be. That was what was so tortured about the first two seasons, they had a million different ideas about what the show should be and they tried to be all of them, and as a consequence of trying too much they failed at everything.

So saving “That Hope Is You, Part 1”. I thought they had it from the minute they got to the 32nd century. (Well, maybe after that opening sequence. You can tell that introductory conception of programmable matter was not going to be something they could sustain on an ongoing TV budget!)

I am also DISGUSTED that they continued modern Trek's OBSCENE practice of part 1's and 2's, instead of the CORRECT Trek form of Part I and Part II. :bolian:

But the do great with that 32nd Century feel! The emotions really land, you feel the enormity of Burnham's journey. It does a skillful job of hustling past the fact that the reason they had to travel to the future makes no sense whatsoever. The production value is fantastic. Booker is an excellent new character intro. I love the new villain being an Andorian/Orion alliance, they provide such an appealing color palate.

Seeing the 32nd Century's version of Starfleet was really intriguing in Die Trying. Seeing the once mighty Starfleet as a shockingly small amount of ships was gripping.

Wow... 3 days, and no votes? I guess I'll vote for another.

"Terra Firma l" was an interesting look at the culture of the Mirror Universe.

I refuse to vote for the stupidity of the reason for The Burn, and I refuse to vote for the episode giving Discovery those ridiculous non-attached floating nacelles. That leaves me either "Far From Home" or "The Sanctuary".

I'll save "The Sanctuary" because I enjoyed the episode and Frakes directed it.

"Far from Home"
"Scavengers"

And our winner of season 3 is "Far from Home".

Fun fact, 2021's winner and runner up were both different episodes.

I will post season 4 shortly. Hope to see everyone there.

Thank you all for playing.
