THE RULES.
The basic idea is your standard elimination game. Below is a list of episodes/movies from TNG and VOY. Eliminate your FAVORITE or the one you deem the 'BEST.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed.

Leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode just because you feel it would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win.

Enjoy! :bolian::beer::bolian::biggrin::bolian::borg:

TNG, Season 3: "Hollow Pursuits"

VOY, Season 7: "Inside Man"
VOY, Season 7: "Author, Author"
VOY, Season 7: "Endgame"

Removing TNG, Season 3: "Hollow Pursuits". Why? Because it's the quintessential Barclay episode that would set the tone for all episodes about him to follow, that's why. It's here that we get to see his (social) anxiety and his problems with fitting in for the first time.

TNG, Season 4: "The Nth Degree"
TNG, Season 6: "Realm Of Fear"
TNG, Season 6: "Ship In A Bottle"
TNG, Season 7: "Genesis"
TNG Feature: "Star Trek: First Contact"
VOY, Season 2: "Projections"
VOY, Season 6: "Pathfinder"
VOY, Season 6: "Life Line"
VOY, Season 7: "Inside Man"
VOY, Season 7: "Author, Author"
VOY, Season 7: "Endgame"[/QUOTE]

I said in another thread recently I felt "Pathfinder" was the best Barclay episode, and I meant it. That episode is special, I find it so improbably successful. Barclay sliding back into holo-addiction could have felt like a tired retread, but instead it's a quite moving exploration of the human tendency to re-succumb to problems they had seemingly conquered earlier in life.

TNG, Season 4: "The Nth Degree"
TNG, Season 6: "Realm Of Fear"
TNG, Season 6: "Ship In A Bottle"
TNG, Season 7: "Genesis"
TNG Feature: "Star Trek: First Contact"
VOY, Season 2: "Projections"
VOY, Season 6: "Life Line"
VOY, Season 7: "Inside Man"
VOY, Season 7: "Author, Author"
VOY, Season 7: "Endgame"

The Nth Degree is so much fun. Seeing confident Barclay with his swagger is a great romp. The alien species in this trying to make contact was also fascinating as well.

TNG, Season 6: "Realm Of Fear"
TNG, Season 6: "Ship In A Bottle"
TNG, Season 7: "Genesis"
TNG Feature: "Star Trek: First Contact"
VOY, Season 2: "Projections"
VOY, Season 6: "Life Line"
VOY, Season 7: "Inside Man"
VOY, Season 7: "Author, Author"
VOY, Season 7: "Endgame"

I'm not a huge Barclay fan. He's right up there with Lwaxana Troi for me. I don't hate him....but I just don't find him a compelling recurring character.

So, I'll pick "Star Trek First Contact" because it's far-and-away the best story up here...and it has only a cameo by our good friend Reg.

TNG, Season 6: "Realm Of Fear"
TNG, Season 6: "Ship In A Bottle"
TNG, Season 7: "Genesis"
VOY, Season 2: "Projections"
VOY, Season 6: "Life Line"
VOY, Season 7: "Inside Man"
VOY, Season 7: "Author, Author"
VOY, Season 7: "Endgame"

I typically dislike holodeck episodes... but Author, Author was hilarious in its absurdity. I have to give it points for that. We've all known someone to write a story with real people, but they change the surface details a little and then feign innocence about it all.

I guess it's not strictly a Barclay episode, but, it's on the list, so, I mean...

(That being said, Barclay wasn't annoying in his scenes in this episode, which is high praise. Broccoli may be a great vegetable but he isn't a great character.)

TNG, Season 6: "Realm Of Fear"
TNG, Season 6: "Ship In A Bottle"
TNG, Season 7: "Genesis"
VOY, Season 2: "Projections"
VOY, Season 6: "Life Line"
VOY, Season 7: "Inside Man"
VOY, Season 7: "Endgame"

I must save "Genesis", which is one of my beloved guilty-pleasure eps, it never fails to satisfy. But more importantly for this list: SPIDER BARCLAY.

TNG, Season 6: "Realm Of Fear"
TNG, Season 6: "Ship In A Bottle"
VOY, Season 2: "Projections"
VOY, Season 6: "Life Line"
VOY, Season 7: "Inside Man"
VOY, Season 7: "Endgame"

Ship in a Bottle is an excellent sequel to a good season 2 episode, deftly handling intriguing themes.

TNG, Season 6: "Realm Of Fear"
VOY, Season 2: "Projections"
VOY, Season 6: "Life Line"
VOY, Season 7: "Inside Man"
VOY, Season 7: "Endgame"

Removing TNG, Season 6: "Realm Of Fear". Though I think there are greater episodes on the remaining list (or at least there were, until someone removed Ship in a Bottle just a minute ago), this is one where Barclay gets to shine. Showing him to be an ultimately courageous man, staring his fears into the eye when he really has to and not shirking his responsibilities.

VOY, Season 2: "Projections"
VOY, Season 6: "Life Line"
VOY, Season 7: "Inside Man"
VOY, Season 7: "Endgame"

I am removing "Projections" It had all the great tropes of a classic trek episode (characters world turned upside down, ship in danger/damaged, big WTF? twists). It's also the first episode where we learn the EMH is based on his creator, Lewis Zimmerman, as well as the connection between Barclay and Voyager. I personally enjoyed this early stand-alone episode of Voyager quite a bit

VOY, Season 6: "Life Line"
VOY, Season 7: "Inside Man"
VOY, Season 7: "Endgame"

Life Line is easily best of what is left. I love Barclay's role in trying to help the Doctor and Lewis get along. It's all very touching.

VOY, Season 7: "Inside Man"
VOY, Season 7: "Endgame"

I just found out recently (last 12 months) that Dwight Schultz was one of the main characters on the A-Team.

I was channel surfing at just the right moment and the show's credit's where rolling and I recognized that name anywhere.

Prior to that, Mr. T was all i knew of the A-Team world. And that there was a remake with Liam Neeson and Bradley Cooper I think?

Dropping Endgame. Barclay's role in the episode was so minor I forget he was in it, but the Ferengi aspect of Inside Man was simply awful. It's shocking how badly Voyager did with Ferengi after DS9 showed how to use them properly.

VOY, Season 7: "Inside Man"

Damn, I missed this one.

I was going to say "INSIDE MAN" would end up 'winning' this one.

Looks like my prediction came true.

Hey, finally the episode I was rooting for wins! :bolian: "Inside Man" is my personal most-disliked of these. What a mess that episode is!

This is a minor detail to pick on (though one that is newly resonant these days), but it has one of my most HATED recurring Voyager bits, when the Doctor loses his mobility (temporarily or potentially permanently) and it's treated as comic relief by everyone else. Ha ha, you are now trapped in this single room, potentially for the entire rest of your existence! That's funny, right? Isn't the Doctor a ridiculous nebbish for being concerned that he is now a prisoner in one room forever? THE CREW'S REACTIONS TO THESE SITUATIONS ARE ALWAYS SO GROSS. (Though in this case it's more the episode itself making fun of the Doctor, rather than the other characters, but still...)

Anyway, thanks for playing everyone!

Let's do another quick character one next, before getting back to a longer list: "The Most Disliked Lwaxana Episode" Hope to see you all there!
