The Meat Appreciation Thread

So tonight, I was pretty hungry, as people tend to get when it's about dinner time.

The other day I picked up since nice ground chuck from the butcher. It's an excellent butcher too, great meat, generous cuts, top quality, decent price.

Which, let me tell you, is difficult to find around here.

So anyway, went outside and lit the grill. I'm all about grilling, most meat, IMO, just doesn't taste right unless grilled.

Since this is high quality beef, I only added some season salt and garlic powder. Grilled to medium rare.

And let me tell you...excellent! Grabbed a Corona out of the fridge and enjoyed my burger.

So, good people of misc, how to do you like meat? Seasonings, marinades, and whatnot? I'm a medium rare guy myself. But what about you?

And, what's your beverage of choice while grilling up some tasty meat?

I'll never be a proper Canadian, I know, but I just don't understand barbecuing. It's just not something I like.

I guess it's my British heritage - my favourite way to serve any meat is with potatoes and gravy :)

You just boil everything till warm and soggy don't you?

For beverages, it depends on the food. Like if I'm cooking up burgers and dogs, I'll go with a nice cold beer. Eatting brisket with the family? That's more of sweet tea kind of thing. Grilled chicken and veggies-I'll go with ice water. Grilled tilapia-maybe some chilled wine. Fried catfish, either plain ice tea or a cold beer. It all just kind of depends.

I love to make myself a steak. I get the meat from my local independent market. The meat can be a little hit and miss but I cook it with a nice mix of flavorings and spices so I enjoy it.

And while not a cooked meat, I love corned beef on a seeded roll with a little mustard.

That ground chuck you bought might have come from one of the steers we raised and sold last year (25/millions chance)

I like my steaks medium rare or so and my burgers well done.

Please tell me you used a propane grill and didn't ruin the meat with charcoal.

Other than that little clarification, I'm a proud member of P.E.T.A. - People Eating Tasty Animals.

Steak tastes good.
Bacon tastes good.
Pork Chops taste good.

Black Angus strip steaks, brushed with olive oil, poked with a fork and sprinkled with some tenderizer, then some McCormick steak rub.

Grilled about 2 minutes per side, which with all the above steps, seems to get it to about medium, which is just a little too much but still not overcooked.

I also like to marinade boneless chicken breasts in BBQ sauce and grill, but I think I want to try injecting them for more flavor.

I like the BBQ flavor more than, say, teriyaki, which does get into the chicken better.

I eat meat only occasionally because I spring for free-range and organic, which is expensive. The most delicious meat I've ever prepared was some pink veal I purchased from my local farmer's market. I dipped it lighly seasoned breadcrumbs, fried it in butter, and served it with mashed potatoes and steamed veg. Awesome.

I always have my beef at medium. Burgers, steaks, whatever--it's all good.

I've had burgers from both propane- and charcoal-fired grills, and while they taste different, I can't say I prefer one over the other. They're both good in their own ways.

What's wrong with charcoal? :wtf:

All you taste is the charcoal, not the meat. Propane's the best option.

Or, as Hank Hill would say, "taste the meat, not the heat." :)

I don't really know how to grill though I wish I could do it ... there are some really awesome options out there. I don't like many forms of meat, mostly I stick to beef and chicken, and even then I'm learning I don't like a lot of forms of beef.

But cheeseburgers ... every type ... yum!
