The Magnificent Ferengi

Crewman47

Commodore
Newbie
I'm just watching this just now and even though Kira put a word in for Quark to let them have Keevan I'm just wondering how exactly did Quark manage to convince Sisko that he wanted Keevan to exchange for Ishka? I mean they were going into neutral (?) territory with just six Ferengi and the possibility of facing an unknown number of Jem Hadar soldiers. Did Sisko actually reckon on Quark succeeding and returning back alive?

Quark's life is not really the Sisko's responsibility since Quark is not a Starfleet officer. I bet the Sisko warned him that he might die, but left it as Quark's decision to make.

Sure Ben wouldn't have cried all nite if Quark had been run through by the Jems.

And in a way it did make sense- Quark helped them get the station back, so when his mom was kidnapped and he needed the trade...
Then again, they could also have told him to start paying his rent... :D

I loved that episode...

I always took it that Sisko had some degree of faith in Quark's ability.

But a part of me still believes that the Defiant is lurking back there somewhere under cloak with the crew watching what's going on and Worf grumbling about risking their lives for the damned Ferengi.

Quark is one of those characters that seems very one dimensional on the surface, and then surprises you by showing qualities and traits you didn't really expect him to have. I think this is something Sisko knew. If Quark was willing to risk his own life for his mother, Sisko was going to support that act of (at least partial) selflessness.

And I loved the expression on the Jem'Hadar's face when Ishka starts hitting Nog!!!!!!

Another great example of this was in The Siege of AR-558. MAN, Quark's reaction to Nog getting his leg blown off, and his willingness to defend him in the "infirmary"...amazing.

I was hoping Quark would be armed...

The trouble I had is the same I had with many other Ferengis, especially Zek- the greed!
The only donating this tiny percent of profit to say, the Bajoran orphans fund if it was necessary to get his way... : X

I really think the Sisko probably thought that if anyone could pull it off, it was Quark, although I'm sure he thought he would just negotiate his way out of it.

One of my favourite Quark moments :)

I reckoned Sisko had more faith in Quark than we'd think. Or maybe more faith in Nog. Plus his selfish side wouldn't let him get killed.

Of course helping Quark to help Zek during war time could be a way of getting another valuable ally. We saw Nog on his way with some documents in Valiant.
