The Logical Choice (Pro Archer/T'Pol)

Hopeful Romance indicated a rage thread wouldn't have detractors so ... let's have some detractor free discussion about Archer and T'Pol - favorite moments, why you like them, fav fanfic, etc.

I'll start:
* Too many favorite moments to mention, but a few include the treadmill scene in A Night in Sickbay where T'Pol shows Archer she's a lot smarter than he is, Azati Prime where T'Pol accidentally shows emotion when Archer indicates he's on a suicide mission, Archer thanking T'Pol on his own ship in Twilight (after the party onboard Enterprise where T'Pol visits him)
* Why I like them? I like friendships with people caring about each other. I didn't even know what a ship was until I got here. Something about the couple really had me rooting for them, hoping in the last episode they would sorta get together. I have to say, in that way I'm not disappointed.
* Favorite fanfic - also too many to name all of them. I liked Telaka's Goodnight Enterprise, Witezon's fic about Archer/T'Pol, a few by asearcher and more. I'm sure people will name some I like!

I liked the scene at the end of "Shockwave 2"... "I think you put it over the top." It demonstrated to me that they had progressed from their rocky beginnings to trust and friendship, and a comfort level that allowed them to joke about someone maybe seeing Archer come in, and the back-and-forth about whether T'Pol still believed time travel was impossible. Nice scene.

I liked that Archer had warmed up to T'Pol enough that in Shadows of P'Jem he persuaded the Vulcan captain to let her remain on Enterprise. And by the time of Stigma he's not just asking the Vulcans to leave her alone, he's demanding it.

And I absolutely loved the treadmill scene in ANIS, in part because of Archer's efforts to keep pace with T'Pol and her telling him off. Those were some of the best lines Jolene ever got on that show.

Archer and Administrator T'Pol were hilarious in handling their prisoner in Precious Cargo. They really should have taken that show on the road.

The only thing I wish the writers had done was to have a scene where Archer insists that she tell him what was really going on with her in Damage. I think that part of her character's story shouldn't have been just dropped. Telling Archer the truth would have been a HUGE leap of trust on her part. And while he would have been extremely angry that she risked her life and put the ship and the mission at risk, he would eventually realize that she took a great chance -- that she didn't really have to take -- to let him see who she really is, which is hard enough for humans, nevermind the very private Vulcans.

One scene that gets me: Archer on the verge of tears as he tells her that the Vulcans refused to help her find a cure for Panar Syndrome in Stigma. He's devastated in the face of her stoicism.

I completely agree. I think the best things the writers ever did to the character is put them through a little hell to get them to heaven. It never felt right to the character of T'Pol to have her do drugs, put the ship in jeopardy and then hide it from everyone - with Phlox hiding it along with her. I think she would've gone to some interesting places as a character that would either enable her to better handle her emotion or assist her in going back to the Kir'shara (as she did), as well as further her relationship with Archer, Trip and Phlox. Missed opportunities!

Thanks for playing along, guys!

How about some pictures? I love pictures.

Yep, they made a big mistake pairing her with Trip. Archer was the natural choice.

Azati Prime says it all. Just look at how she reacts to Archer going on his supposed suicide mission, and then what she tells to Trip when he confronts her with her illogical behaviour. I always think that Trip was the one she liked, but those emotions she could handle. What she felt for Archer made her lose control, and that's scary even for humans, let alone troubled Vulcans.

This is from Wikipedia: "Meanwhile, T'Pol, now in command of Enterprise, has experienced an emotional breakdown. She decides to go on a suicidal mission to rescue Archer, and reacts with anger when Trip tries to stop her. An attack from Reptilian Xindi forces preempts this, though. As the episode concludes, Enterprise is sustaining heavy damages from the enemy vessels."

Nuff said, imho.

Also, there was way more chemistry between her and Archer. Way more. In my world, she loves him much more than she'll ever love Trip. Her demeanour speaks for itself.

Prefacing this by saying, for those who don't know me, that my OTP is Trip and T'Pol, but I'm not a crazy hater or anything like that.

That said, I wanted to share my first Archer/T'Pol fic. It acknowledges her relationship with Trip, so if that'll upset you, you might want to just pass on it. WARNING: it's NC-17, so no clicking if you're underage or offended by that kind of thing.

"She Wore White"

I did this piece as a result of a workshop we're having at the Delphic Expanse. I have some new friends from the Archer/T'Pol community, and I had them in mind when I wrote this. I hope you like it.

I am getting to re-visited the best couple in Trek through the eyes of a newbie! I have to say all the A/T'P scenes in Twilight still are my favorites!

When I watch them, I can see great romantic potential. Better than with Trip. I've never been a shipper and never gave them a thought until I saw this thread.

I have to say that based on how they evolve as an extraordinary team on ENT and how loyal they are to each other, I can see why people would see them as a great couple. The potential is there.

I'm watching ENT right now on netflix and just loving how in Dear Doctor he wants her input and later considers Vulcans perspective on humans and why they treated them as they did.

I liked her with Trip, but I think with Archer there was potential for more than just a hot couple. What's the episode where she cares for him for decades? It's in season 3. I really loved that episode. Of course, she was the warmer one who clearly had a very strong bond with him while he was clueless due to his memory. That was a great episode for T'pol. It definitely made me love her character.

Twilight. And it was 12 years.

Twlight is one of the best hours of dramatic television IMO. Both Bakula and Blalock nailed Mike Sussman's amazing script and Robbie McNeil's directing also dead on.
