I was reading about the original Lesley Crusher idea - It would've been different than Wesley - although given that many of the storyline ideas for Lesley had teenage romance just because she would be a girl - "A little love, a little romance..."... yeah.

I don't think the largely male writers could have done well had it been an actual girl instead of Will Wheaton. They would have gone to much of the "dresses, perfume and flowers"/"tits and lipstick" extreme.

Lesley Crusher probably would have been more interesting than Wesley Crusher but I agree with the sentiment that the writers they had in the first two seasons weren't up to the task of writing a super-gifted teenage girl in a way that's both strong AND feminine.

The one aspect about it I think Justman made a good point on is that mother/daughter stories would have been an interesting vein to mine at a time when few TV shows explored that relationship.

If a woman goes for dating advice from Riker, most likely she would end up on a date with Riker.

That would have made for an interesting episode, with Beverly being the overprotective mother and not wanting to see this happen.

I think Traveler was creepy to begin with, if he would have been that close with Leslie Crusher, it would have been a horror episode.

Leslie is the male spelling, She would have been Lesley. it was interesting to see Liz Barr/lizbee call out the various storyline pitches for Lesley for being overloaded with romance just because Lesley was all "tits and lipstick".

Thoughts - we could have had a "Lesley has a crush on an older male crewmember that he does not return" story.

And a male Robin Lefler could have the same name and spelling.
