The least disliked episode of VOY - Season Six

BlueStuff

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
This is a game that we play every few years, and it's generally a lot of fun, providing a chance to mentally revisit those episodes you may not have thought about in a while. With that in mind, why not play again?

So, here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your least favorite or the one you deem the 'worst.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, please leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode just because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win.
Pretty simple. Enjoy! :bolian:

Unimatrix Zero I

I'll get things underway by terminating Unimatrix Zero I. I'll admit that it's not the worst episode of this bunch, but it's the one I dislike the most because it marked the Borg's final tumble into being a completely inept waste of space.

I'll eliminate Spirit Folk and its somewhat racist, stereotypical Irish village. Fair Haven needs deleting as well but the way the crew were so attached the the holo-program and wanted to keep it running all the time was pathetic. Was this the one where Harry was turned into a cow as well? Sigh.

I always wondered what they writers were smoking when they came up with it all. ;)

Removing Fair Haven. It's uncomfortable see the crew inexplicably fetishize this quaint Irish village, but to the extent that they try to keep it running all the time even when the ship is under major threat just makes it absurd.

"The Voyager Conspiracy" is dismissed out of hand. It's mildly entertaining, but (like many conspiracy theories) doesn't stand up to even cursory scrutiny. Seven's described as "malfunctioning," which I guess is her excuse, but Chakotay and Janeway must be, too, considering they actually buy into this lunacy.

"Tsunkatse" was a dumb, empty promotional gimmick in the form of an episode.

Fury is out next. Nothing about it makes sense. Why is Kes so angry to begin with? The only thing going for her return is that it has Kea in it.

The Haunting of Deck Twelve. Pretty derivative premise that, weird as it sounds to write this, was honestly done better in TNG's Lonely Among Us.

I say "bah bah" to "Good Shepherd" because:
  • I was never a fan of the "Mama Janeway" trope.
  • The way this episode was going to be resolved was clear from the moment the plot was established.
  • It's hard to believe that, on a ship no bigger than Voyager, problem crewmembers like these managed to go overlooked for six years. If this episode was going to happen at all, it should have happened much sooner.
Although I have to admit that I liked how, for once, the screw-up crewmembers were straight-up Starfleet, and not former Maquis.

Live Fast and Prosper has some cute ideas, but it doesn't really amount to much, becoming a bit of an average episode.

"Alice" was another in a long line of disappointing Paris episodes. I don't know what it was, I thought I was into Paris as a character, but nearly (or literally?) every time he was the focus of an episode, it fell flat.

Ashes to Ashes is a strange episode. Let's bring a made-up character back to life, to get back with Harry, the least interesting member of the cast.

"Equinox II" is out of season. While there's no doubt Ransom, Burke, and co. committed evil acts, Janeway went over-the-top in a way that almost made me wonder whether, if her ship had been in similar straits, she would have been any better. Also, I couldn't help wondering if she and Voyager would have come across as having more moral authority in the situation if they ever had faced the difficulties Equinox faced.

Dragon's Teeth. The basic idea was sound, but it's undermined by writing the Vaadwaur as pretty much cartoon villains, and also by the script twisting itself in knots to try and make the whole thing Seven's fault while absolving Janeway of any remote shred of blame.

Virtuoso was a fun attempt at trying to play up the Doctor's ego as a celebrity, but ultimately it was more frustrating than anything else.

Barge of the Dead, too much klingon stuff, I was SO over them after TNG and DS9 used them all the time.
