The least disliked episode of TOS - season two

BlueStuff

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
This is a game that we play every two years, and it's generally a lot of fun, providing a chance to mentally revisit those episodes you may not have thought about in a while. With that in mind, why not play again?

So, here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your least favorite or the one you deem the 'worst.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win.
Pretty simple. Enjoy! :bolian:

Time for "Bread and Circuses" to go. It's not a terrible episode but there are far stronger episodes and I can remmber the other episodes better. So it didn't really leave a lasting impact therefore ummemmorable (largely)

Second season is probably my favorite of the three. Good episodes all through. That said, I'm kicking out Patterns of Force. It's little more than a veiled excuse to do Space Nazis! I think it even started the trope of Nazis in space (If it didn't start it, it's one of the popular entries).

Plus for all the buildup of John Gill, he doesn't do much except mumble. He has only one moment of coherency before he's shot to death. At least for how well he's inflated in the litverse, it would have been nice to have more out of him. Even Merrick in Bread and Circuses had more to do than Gill!

I'll eliminate "Catspaw." It's a bit contrived & generally unmemorable, and most of the effects are pretty shoddy.

I, SIR RHOSIS hereby dump I, MUDD. Annoying character in an episode with Koenig clicking his heels. Good God, it is an embarassing mess. And how did the android whatshisname get onboard, get past McCoy, past Spock? My second least favorite episode of the entire series (just above Plato's Stepchildren).

Surely least disliked means the one out of the bunch that you preferred above the others? For me the worst of season two would be I Mudd or Return To Tomorrow I suppose!

Then feel free to remove one from the current list. As for me, I'll take out By Any Other Name. Kirk flips out when Thompson is killed, yet whenever a male redshirt dies (every other episode) it doesn't phase him. Hello, sexism.

There's a special place in Hell for whomever gave the go-ahead to "I, Mudd".

I enjoyed I, Mudd. If for no other reason than for the illogical sketches used to defeat the Androids.

Kicking out A Private Little War. Like most of the pipelines on the Trek set, it feels like it Goes Nowhere and Does Nothing. There's a parable about escalation in war here, but it's served with a watery plot that doesn't feel engaging.

I've always hated Metamophosis. Sacharine little "love story" with syrupy intolerable string music and possibly the worst female character in all of TOS. Our heroes do nothing except ransom a Federation commissioner to an alien in order to escape from a planet. Now, maybe there is more here than I remember: I hated this episode so much as a child that I have never given it a chance as an adult. But just based off my visceral disappointment whenever this episode was on when I was younger – Yay, Star Trek is on! Oh YUCK, it's Metamorphosis – I'll happily hit the reject button here.

Five quatloos to anyone who will permanently erase THE GAMESTERS OF TRISKELION from the CBS Paramount film vaults. Heavy-handed allegory, very flat performances from Angelique Pettyjohn and everyone involved save the always excellent Joseph Ruskin.
