The least disliked episode of TNG - Season Four

MikeS

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
As I missed the last season through being on a different timezone I hope nobody minds me starting this...

This is a game that was played here a couple of years ago, and it proved to be a lot of fun, spanning across each Trek series, as well as a great way to mentally revisit those episodes you may not have thought about in a while. With that in mind, why not play again?

So, here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your least favorite or the one you deem the 'worst.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode. Pretty simple. Enjoy! :bolian:

I'm going to be controversial and remove The Best of Both Worlds II first. This is simply because I felt the conclusion was a bit of a let down. You can tell that it was written seperately from part one and Piller was obviously being truthful when he said he had no idea how to end it. I found it unforgivable to simply demote Riker (after having saved the Federation) with no explanation. I know we got the excellent Family as some sort of continuation, but they could have done so much more with this as a series-changing episode, (have Picard become a Commodore, whatever, plenty of discussion on this forum about wasted opportunities) instead they tried to wrap it up neatly as another "episode of the week".

Have to agree. TBoBW2 could have been truely amazing, but it was just good, not living up to Part 1.

As for me, I vote off Qpid. I hate Q episodes and the whole Robin Hood thing was just cringe worthy.

Wow, two great episodes ditched already - I´m stunned!

I´ll drop "The Loss". Deanna can be annoying enough as it is, I don´t need a whole episode of her crying and complaining.

Legacy... sorry, but a Tasha Yar wasn't that interesting to dedicate a whole episode to her corrupt sister and Data. And why is a former Earth colony allowed to apparently secede and sink this low again?

Away with Devil's Due.

Why on earth they went with an unnecessary reworking of a Phase II script when at the time they had a stellar group of staff writers in their prime and no strikes going on I'll never understand...

Night Terrors go BOOM. I like the premise of everyone being exhausted and beginning to hallucinate. However, Troi in that purple dream void - that was just awful. They should have thought of something more abstract and interesting for those dream sequences. Data's dreams in Phantasms, something like that.

Its definitely between The Host and Half a Life, I find both unwatchable, torrid episodes. Half a Life wins by a nose.

The riff raff has largely been dealt with, so I'll end Data's Day. Fun, but in this competition, fun don't cut it.

Two of my top ten favorite episodes of the entire franchise were just eliminated :(

I'm getting rid of Identity Crisis. It's boring, it's scientific premise doesn't hold water, and something about that guest actress bothers me.

Well, there goes my favorite. OK I'll remove what I consider the most boring episode of season 4.
I hereby remove The Mind's Eye.

Dang Sela, you cut Yesterday's Enterprise in last season and the Mind's Eye in this one. You don't seem to like the episodes that foreshadow your name and avatar. :p

But back on track... Final Mission. Yet another yawn inducing Picard and Wesley bonding episode coupled with a buzzer Wesley Saves the Day.

I'll have to eliminate The Wounded. I know that this was an important episode introducing us to the Cardassians and O'Brien's (inconsistent) background, and it started laying the foundation for DS9.... but I just thought it was dull.

In Theory. Data's romance plot was cringeworthy, and I didn't find the love interest character likable at all.

Though the security officer being embedded in the floor with blood running from her nose - that was awesome.

Sela is the only good thing to come from Yesterday's Enterprise. Otherwise Yesterday's Enterprise was too dark for my taste. The Mind's Eye is boring. Plus they never show Sela. You just hear her voice and see her silhouette.

Now back to the thread.
I'm removing Future Imperfect because it was just...there. I can't find a word to describe it.
