The least disliked episode 2021 - TNG Season Four

BlueStuff

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Our addictive biyearly game of rapid elimination returns - now able to include Disco's third season as well as the debut years of Picard and Lower Decks. It's generally a lot of fun, providing a chance to mentally revisit those episodes you may not have thought about in a while. With that in mind, why not play again?

So, here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your least favorite or the one you deem the 'worst.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode just because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win.
Pretty simple. Enjoy! :bolian:

So I'll be the first one to eliminate this time!! Yay!!

Ok, so I choose "Suddenly Human" if your kid had been abducted by a gang of thieves and trained to be a thief himself (as in Oliver Twist). Would you say: "Hey, that's the life he's accustomed to so I'll leave him there!!" or would you fight to the death to have him reintegrated into your society and have a chance to become someone you would not be completely ashamed of? These people are perfect assholes, they're barbaric, I don't care if stealing babies from the people they massacred is part of their customs. IMO, Picard and all are cowards.

Besides, it's stupid, you'd think the admiral would have something to say about Picard letting her grandson go!!!

What a piece of trash!!!!

Despite your best efforts, Picard, I remember the events of "Clues," so off it goes. Dude. You let hostile aliens meddle with the minds of every non-android person on your ship, including the civilians and children. Twice. That's a lot of trust to place in someone who would really rather kill all of them.

I'll remove "QPid". As if it wasn't bad enough that Vash comes back for another episode. As if it wasn't bad enough that it's a Q episode (especially one of those Q episodes that's basically "Q does random crap with props)..said episode has the characters prancing around in Robin Hood costumes in what is essentially a Holo Deck. No Bueno. It's like all my least favourite aspects in TNG combined to make this episode.

Really never liked Identity Crisis. Yet another lifeform that depends on aliens showing up to their planet to reproduce. And for some reason, "invisible" always means "soundless" as well.

Oh brother... by this point in season 4, it was getting repetitive with the epic kidnapping and/or epiphany-inducing event for one of our beloved crewmembers. Data's turn is in "Brothers". Brent Spiner in a triple-role doesn't cease to entertain, but despite it all it's still reasonably better than what follows it, "Suddenly Salad".

The Host because Beverly has sex with Odan in Riker's body. Who thought tnat was a good idea?

By then, every STI had a treatment as fast and quick as Odan, so why not? There's also one misguided (IMHO) plot flaw since the episode really isn't about love at all, but if I ever sit through this story again I'll post about it for sure.

Let's get rid of Night Terrors. The whole plot is just silly, once again we have some sort of psychic...thing...mind raping everyone on the Enterprise,a nd once again they hallucinate random crap. And you'd think there'd be a better way to communicate a need for hydrogen atoms than "Eyes in the Darkness. One Moon Circles! One Moon Circles!!!"Plus those silly scenes of having Troi float around dreamland...

"In Theory" because it's embarrassingly stupid. Yeah, Data is an automaton we get it, wait, we're not supposed to think that are we?

No Loss here. The Loss is the second time TNG dealt with a newfound handicap for a critical character in a direct way -- except "Loud as a Whisper" did the theme a lot more creatively and successfully, IMHO. Loss is also the 80th time or so when Troi says "Captain I can't sense the obvious from them". But the new take on it doesn't do much except have Troi of all people whine, when it seems more likely she'd counsel herself the way she's done so to scores of patients. On the other hand, there's a possibly interesting, if not unspoken and unintentional idea in that regard but the episode doesn't do much. Except for trying to make the story Troi-centric and fumbling with bizarre navel-gazing. Especially when it's revealed she lost nothing but the 2D fritters did nothing but overload her telepathic ability and Troi couldn't figure it out until after the cosmic strings left to go party elsewhere.

If nothing else, it introduces "cosmic strings", which are used in season 5's "Disaster". And speaking of cosmic things,

I adored the episode at the time because it broke the broken record of "force main cast into their own mini-BOBW-themed-scenario-of-sorts" and actually did something with some exciting action for once. But its Legacy hasn't held up. The number of plot holes are big enough to drive a Borg cube through. Never mind the episode was teasing us with Data/Ishara shippin', for which - had that happened - fans would still not bicker for decades over who was better. That said, 1990 hair never looked so hot. So don't put it near a candle because all that hairspray and gel are flammable and you know the lead guy was using it on his 5 o'clock stubble too.

Another very strong season. TNG found its groove for sure here. Very, VERY hard to take out any here.

Taking out "The Nth Degree" only because I like the others a bit more.

Most of season 4 is quite solid, including the following entry, but all that aside - this hurts: The Wounded felt like a backdoor pilot trope, or if nothing else a Cousin Oliver trope to expand on storylines. For an example of reflecting on personal war issues but without going all nuts as it makes for a stronger character, a certain DS9 premiere story made for a more interesting use of that without the cliche of "evil cap'n going off deep end". (Then again, the episode also hints the Cardassians did a no-no but, as I said, the season - including this episode - is largely solid...)

By now it's quite difficult to remove episodes.
I gonna remove Galaxy's Child, because watching Geordi creeping on a married woman who is clearly not interested and getting upset that she isn't his ideal dream girlfriend is just creepy and uncomfortable and makes me dislike the Geordi whenever I watch it.
