The Least Disliked 2-Part/2-Hour Star Trek Episode

For awhile I've been thinking of doing a twist on @BlueStuff 's "Least Disliked Episode" elimination games, the change being that instead of using seasons of the shows for the lists, I would use themed collections of episodes from across the franchise instead. So here is my first attempt -- I thought I'd start with the most easily definable* of themes, and one that would definitely pull in episodes from all of the live action series -- 2-Part & 2-Hour episodes. In other versions of these elimination games, it can be hard to judge the bigger stories against single episodes that only have half the running time to work with. I am curious what happens when they are judged only against each other.

And if people like this kind of cross-Trek elimination game, I think I already have my next 15 ideas lined up (least disliked Klingon episode, least disliked holodeck episode, least disliked time travel episode...)

Anyway, THE RULES. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. Below is a list of every two-part or two-hour episode from every series. Eliminate your least favorite or the one you deem the 'worst.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, please leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode just because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win.

*And, even with the seemingly concrete parameters of 2-part/2-hour episodes, I did go back and fourth on whether a handful of these *technically* counted. If you disagree with something even being included here, feel free to use that as a reason to eliminate it!

I will get rid of VOY: "Workforce." I've always found this such an inexplicably boring use of two full episodes, especially for a final season. There's nothing else on this list where I so fundamentally struggle just to pay attention to it.

I am eliminating "UNIMATRIX ZERO". No episode destroys the credibility of the Borg as a major threat, or the terror of being assimilated, like this two-parter.


Side note: more a question, why no 3-parters? DS9 and ENTERPRISE season 4 had pretty much all of them, but I think they should be added.

 

I never warmed to Storm Front. It finally ended the Tempral Cold War arc, but it had never really made sense over the seasons. Ending it by using Evil Alien Nazis yet again was the final straw.

I thought about it, but my initial impetus for this particular one was to compare stories of the same size, so it seemed like it would throw it off -- I do feel like the 2-part/hour episodes have a distinct rhythm that isn't shared by the 3-parters.

There aren't enough "official" 3 parters to make their own round, but I was already wondering if there would be enough if 3-episode arcs or trilogy-like episode collections were added (such as Maquis Eddington, or Wesley & the Traveler, or "Jem'Hadar" plus "The Search", or the Sisko Emissary Trilogy, or BOBW+"Family", etc).

Does anyone think DS9: "Favor The Bold"/"Sacrifice Of Angels" belongs on here? I have never once thought of that as a two-parter, but I was just reminded that Memory Alpha considers it so...

 

Technically it is a two-parter, but then it's all part of the Occupation Arc.

Lore was practically twirling a villainous mustache, Data was pretty much a puppet, and I could never make any damn sense of leaving the CMO in command of the ship (and in hostile space, no less!) so the captain and first officer could beam down to the planet and wave tricorders around like any old crewmember could have done.

Agree...Descent was a giant bag of horseshit. Pretty much anything with Lore was awful.

Similarly, Time's Arrow was horrible. TNG really stumbled with cliffhangers after BOBW. Eliminated.

"Equinox" A frustrating story. There's so many good concepts rattling around in here, and none of it finds satisfactory expression. The actual season cliffhanger in the middle is also remarkably lazy. "Will Janeway be killed, or will she jump out of the way as the creature glides harmlessly past?
