The Jem'Hadar was an Amazing Finale

Just finished season 2 on my DS9 rewatch and The Jem'Hadar was a hell of a finale. What a way to officially introduce the dominion and I thin I would rank this as the second or third best of the season finales on the show, behind A Call To Arms. It's a shame we didn't get more of an aftermath to this episode, like further development to the Dominions threat about federation ships going through the wormhole or Eris's Telekinetic ability.

Is there a good reason why the Federation ignored the Dominion's threat? I mean Kira saw the list of ships destroyed, New Bajor was gone, yet we find out the Federation continued to send ships to the other side. I'm not sure if this aspect was ever addressed, but I do plan to see The Search tomorrow.

They take the threat seriously, but they also basically take the stance of "if you think we can be bullied into not coming through the wormhole, you've got another thing coming."

And "The Search" indeed shows and tells that the Dominion threat is not a major one as such - that is, if the Federation really wants to, it can protect itself almost trivially easily. There's just a price to pay...

Before it comes to quite that, there's no harm in doing a bit of reconnaissance in Gamma, in probing the Dominion defenses, and in generally pissing off the arrogant enemy!

I think the Federation took them seriously but they kind of underestimated how powerful the Dominion really was at that time. And yes. The Jem'Hadar was a great episode.

All the DS9 finales were excellent except maybe "In The Hands Of The Prophets" and even that is a good episode on its own.

"The Jem'Hadar" pretty much changed the course of the entire series along with "The Search" 2 parter.

I loved ITHOTP. But then I love a lot of the Bajoran storylines, which is a big reason I really like Season 2, so that might be a little biased.

It's a good episode. Always great to see Louise Fletcher as Vedek/Kai Winn. The story was a perfect bookend to the season. Just not the most exciting of episodes for a season finale but that's not a huge issue unless comparing it to "The Jem'Hadar" and others.

The Federation also thought they would always have the option of collapsing the entrance to the wormhole. After season two their focus in exploring the GQ was more recon than exploration.

A big theme in TNG that wasn't talked about as much in DS9 was that the Federation does not change their values to accommodate fear. The closest they got to addressing that directly was Paradise Lost.
