The Inner Light

Willieck

Commander
Red Shirt
This is one of my absolute all time favourites. Unlike many Star Trek episodes I would say this one is totally unique although I suppose there might just be shades of the Voyager episode where Harry finds himself in a different reality.

Still, this one is much better. I particularly like the nice touch of having Patrick Stewart's own son playing his fictional son in the story.

I don't think it was over-rated at all. As a matter of fact, it makes a lot of people's Top 5. I know it does mine.

Yepp, mine too.

A powerful and engaging episode that shows the depth of Picard's character. IMO the number 1 "Picard" episode.

I'm not saying it's bad - it's pretty good. It's just not one of my personal favorites. And I have - at times - heard and read people fawn over it so much that you would think it's the best thing ever written.

As for Picard episodes, my personal favorite is Family.

It's tops on my list of Next Gen episodes, as well. It's the perfect dream that slips from your grasp as you wake up. I can't think of many episodes of any series that so perfectly capture the concept of poignancy.

You're like my clone that likes ENT, sometimes.

I'm not sure I have a favorite Picard episode, but I'd rank Family higher, as well. I LIKE The Inner Light. It's a good, interesting, wonderfully-acted episode. But it's just that; good. One of the single most overrated things in Trek to me.

Awesome episode, despite the questionable premise that a civilization like the one shown would have the technological capability to build a probe sophisticated enough to last in space for thousands of years, interface with the brain of an alien, and project an incredibly complex and detailed interactive VR environment.

But still, this episode features a good story and terrific performances.

Exactly, it's good but not great.

aah, great show. picard lives a lifeime in like 20 minutes of real time. a way to preserve that dead civilizations memories. great acting, nice mix of characters. awesome.

Oh, jolene b fan puts that up as something like an image in a signature. Personally, he or she can keep on keeping on as far as I'm concerned. :ouch:

And I'd rather not have quite a big, unrelated photo attached to practically every post jolene_b_fan writes

I know I'm a minority, but I also think this episode is over-rated. Again, it's an okay episode, good even, but the fan-love gushed on it just makes me a little confused.

Not even in my Top 30 TNG episodes I'm afraid (but probably top 50, which out of 178 isn't so bad).

s'OK it's a free country.

I haven't watched any but the first season since the first airing years ago.

The fact that I remember this episode... every bit of it, and loved it... speaks volumes to me as to how well done it is.

I think the episode's strength lies in the thinking behind it, I simply cannot contemplate living 40 or so years and then waking up in my real life finding that only 20 minutes have passed in my real life.

I'm only 22 myself so I just can't imagine 40 years passing by and then meaning nothing in the end

I have been on forums where people have questioned the morals and ethics of this episode and some feel that Picard was violently violated by what the aliens did.

I disagree and I think it is the best TNG episode and one of the best Trek episodes ever.
