^ Yep. BR's are wonderful for those who care about the highest of high res and all the features. Most of the people deciding between the two options are more interested in the price tag - and why spend more than you have to for the same thing in a different box?

 

That matches my experience too. I tend to go for Blu nowadays, but at the local supermarkets, shelf space for dvd vs Blu is at least four to one in favour of DVD. At the local HMV, I wouldn't care to estimate the figures, but the racks of DVD do outweigh the Blu section significantly. At the supermarket, certain titles are never available on Blu (though they have been released). Other titles don't seem to be released here on blu.


As for CBSAA, it's not a thing here, but I've got netflix and they're getting it for us here.

 

I'm not paying. I'm patient/cheap.

 

Most TV shows don't release on DVD until shortly before the next season starts, so that might be why.

 

I bought an Apple TV for a multitude of reasons, but the biggest one was Star Trek Discovery. Want to actually see this series on the TV instead of on a computer.

I noticed the other day The Good Fight came to Itunes. I wonder if that will be the case with Discovery too, when that season ends or even a few months after.

 

This is surprising because here in the U.S. Blu Rays are easily out selling DVD's.

I don't really see the point of owning DVD's. With Blu Ray you can get an ultra high quality copy of your movie/show that's better than what you're going to get streaming. On the other hand DVD isn't really an upgrade over what you're going to get streaming.

 

Except the fact that you are getting a hard copy of what you are buying. I bought Reno 911! : The Complete Series on DVD just the other day.

 

Also with Blu Rays and DVDs, I enjoyed the special features that would come with it. You don't get a lot of that with streaming, unfortunately.

 

Also some Blu-Rays are coming with more special features then DVDs.

Hell some shows are stripping special features completely from DVDs and only putting them on Blu-Ray.

 

The demise of cable that everyone predicts just means more individual ways to nickle and dime us...CBS all acess, crackle--everybody wants their pound of flesh. I thought the idea of cable was to keep a lot of choices.

 

But you won't be getting them for $5.99 or $7.99 a month. We'll be back to being forced to pay a huge price to get the few things we actually want.

 

I'm not particularly excited about the show and the fact that the season is not going to be available all at once makes it even less appealing, so I'm not sure. If I have nothing to watch, maybe I'll subscribe once at least 5 episodes are on it, because I don't think the pilot has even been representative of the show to come. I hate the ENT pilot but then loved the first two seasons until it got too long-arcie for my taste. In any case if I like the show, I'll remain subscribed to support it and if it's a gritty GOT in space, I'll unsubscribe in protest.

 

At the moment, I'll probably sign up to Netflix here in Australia, but with the news that CBS has brought into one of the channels here, and that Australia will be getting a CBSAA soon also. I probably just wait until I can buy physical copies of the program, and watch them at my own leisure.

 

Seeing as I live in Sweden I have no clue how i could possibly pay. If our local tv buys the show I'll watch it for the sake of it, but it won't show until minimum six months later. I will watch it as it's shown in the US through other means.

 

No offense to any GoT fans or anyone else, but I hope the pilot puts to rest this idea that "GoT in space" automatically means "extreme death" and "gore" and "nudity" at every corner and buries it in an unmarked grave.

 

50% of the reason I upgraded to the 65 inch 4k was Discovery. History repeats itself.
