The Hot Dog Thread

Grilled, with a grilled bun with melted cheese. I take leutice, tomato, onion, hot peppers, sometime radish and carrot. Then ketchup and mustard.

I eat hot dogs once or twice a year deliberately. They are a sort of July 4th tradition for me.

Favorite hot dog type/brand?

Usually something Kosher like Hebrew National or Nathan's. All beef.

Method of cooking?

Boil first, then pan fry to get a streak of crispy edge on one side.

Favorite type of bun?

Potato buns are great, but I don't always find them available, so plain old white bread hot dog bun. I always search out the whole section for the fluffiest looking package of buns.

Favorite toppings?

Yellow mustard. Tuong ot sriracha in lieu of ketchup (I'm weird.) Pickle relish (the only time I will willingly consume sweet pickles is on a hot dog.) Fresh and thinly sliced onions. Fresh diced tomatoes aren't bad.

Sometimes I'll do the chili and cheese thing. Sometimes I'll try to approximate a Chicago dog, but I always half ass it. Sometimes I'll do sauerkraut and deli mustard.

Favorite side?

Another hot dog. Fries are for hamburgers. Chips are for lunch boxes.

Favorite beverage with your frank?

Soda. Ice cold. Dr. Pepper, Coke, or some micro brew root beer. I don't drink beer with hot dogs; hot dogs for me are a sort of childhood nostalgia thing.

Favorite hot dog type/brand?
Hofmann Hot Dogs
I especially love their coneys (which they call snappys)

Method of cooking?

I prefer boiled, but I don't really care as long as they're hot :D

Favorite type of bun?

I prefer to use a slice of whole wheat bread. The bread adds a nice bit of sweet contrast to the spicy coneys.

Favorite toppings?

no toppings :D

Favorite side?

baked beans or fries

Favorite beverage with your frank?

last time I was at Hofmann's Hot Haus they had birch beer in the drink machine, and it was awesome.

Hofmann hot dogs can be found in most local (Central New York) grocery stores, but I'm not sure how far away from Syracuse they reach . . . you can order directly from them if you really want to try them.

Favorite hot dog type/brand?
I like Nathan's and Hebrew National, but otherwise I'm not picky with the exception of any made with turkey (I'm not a turkey fan).

Method of cooking?
Grilled.

Favorite type of bun?
The ones that are on sale.

Favorite toppings?
Diced onions, sweet pickle relish, mustard, and a dash of celery seed. I know ketchup is considered blasphemy to some or even many, but not to me (I'll use it every now and then).

Favorite side?
Baked beans.

Favorite beverage with your frank?
Orange soda--lots of orange soda.
