The Hobbit v. Sherlock Holmes

What do I mean?

Martin Freeman, just announced as Bilbo in the new movie, also has the crucial role of John Watson in 'Sherlock', the 2010 series, set in contemporary London (BTW, it's very good, and on BBC America 24/10). Will he be doing both? Or will he give up Sherlock? It'd be a damn shame, he works well in that role.

Anyone know anything?

He'll have time for both.

Mark Gatiss tweeted:
Huge congratulations to the brilliant Martin Freeman on becoming Bilbo Baggins! No change to #Sherlock schedule, I'm glad to say.

Holmes can take the little guy, if he has enough time to prepare....

Wait, what were we talking about, again?

he actually turned down the role in Hobbit because of his Sherlock schedules. So from this annoucement, along with Gatiss' tweet, I'm guessing PJ liked MF so much he changed The Hobbit's schedule for to suit Sherlock's filming. :D

I just saw Sherlock and I thought it was outstanding. Proof that with the right creative team and actors, Holmes is revelant in any era.

Martin Freeman was impressive and will make a good Bilbo.

yes, accoridng to what i read, he turned it down, then they managed to hammer out a deal where he would film Sherlock in between bits of the Hobbit.

aI wouldn't be surprised if this is because Moffat and Jackson have worked with each other (and are fans of each others work).

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective created by Scottish author. Holmes, who first appeared in publication in 1887, was featured in four novels and 56 short stories.

My best friend has watched "Sherlock" and she said it was really bad and that I wouldn't like it.

After reading about it on this board I phoned up my best friend and told her who was in the cast of The Hobbit. When I told her Martin Freeman was she said "Well I won't be going to see it if he is in it".

Should I listen to my best friend?

No. You shouldn't. She's wrong. Hate to be blunt.

But Sherlock is great.

Martin Freeman is great.

Your friend is wrong.

So, then, that means you should watch Sherlock and judge who is right.
